THANK YOU! Spring Paper Clover Campaign Raises $3442 for Fairfield County!

Thank you to all who came out this spring to support Tractor Supply Co.’s Paper Clover Campaign to support local and state 4-H programming. The results are in! Fairfield County will be getting $3442.10 for 4-H camp and leadership experiences. Thanks again for those who contributed at the Pickerington, Lancaster, and Carroll stores!

Save the date – The fall Paper Clover Campaign will run October 4th – 15th, 2017!

Pygmy Goat Clinic – August 27th

Stay tuned! There will be a Pygmy Goat Clinic on August 27th, 2017. An email will be sent to those enrolled in this 4-H project in addition to all FFA Advisors with additional details. Thank you to Treba Stevens and her Show Committee for organizing this for the education of our pygmy goat exhibitors in preparation for fair!

Guys and Gals Lead Contest Information

The Guys and Gals Lead Contests will be held on Wednesday October 11, 2017 in the Feeder Creek Show Arena at the 2017 Fairfield County Fair.  This  year the event will start at 6:30 p.m. Entries in this class are open to all guys and gals, 3 years old and older, who have an interest in sheep and wool fashion. Participants may lead a ewe or market lamb, conditioned, fit and trained to a show halter. The entrant will be judged on the handling of their sheep and the fashion and style of their predominantly wool outfit.  Classes will be divided into categories from ages 3 years old to adult.  Deadline for commentaries is September 25, 2017.   Applications are online at fairfieldcountyfair.org under FORMS – Fairfield County Guys and Gals Lead Competition.  **Applications are best submitted on PC’s or Laptops, not mobile devices.  If you do not receive an email confirmation within 3 days after submitting your application please contact Jan Kemmerer at 740-653-3252.  For details or more information, contact Jan Kemmerer at 740-653-3252.

Lamb and Wool Queen Application Due September 1st, 2017

The Fairfield County Sheep Producers will be accepting applications for the 2017 Lamb and Wool Queen Contests until September 1, 2017.  Interested applicants must live in Fairfield County and have graduated or presently attend a Fairfield County or Lancaster City School.  Contestant must be between the ages of 16 and 21 years old as of January 1, 2017.  Queen contestants must participate in the Guys and Gals Lead Contest to be held Wednesday night of the 2017 Fairfield County Fair.  Contestants must have an interest in sheep and promoting the lamb and wool industry throughout the year.   Again, the deadline for applications will be September 1, 2017.  Applications are online at fairfieldcountyfair.org under FORMS – Fairfield County Lamb and Wool Queen Contest.  **Applications are best submitted on PC’s or Laptops, not mobile devices.  If you do not receive an email confirmation within 3 days after submitting your application please contact Jan Kemmerer at 740-653-3252.  For details or more information, contact Jan Kemmerer at 740-653-3252.

Important Junior Fair Dog Project Information

Attention Dog Project Members:  Know this date! August 26, 2017, 10am–2 pm

Mandatory Dog Check-In Day: Saturday August 26th, at the Feeder Creek Vet Show Arena – Starting at 10:00 a.m. NEW for 2017 – Mandatory Dog Check-In Day is where members will complete interview judging in:

  • You and your Dog*
  • 4-H PetPALS (for dogs)*

*Only these dog projects will be judged for grade and placement.

To be eligible to show at the Fairfield County Junior Fair, all exhibitors are required to bring to Mandatory Dog Check-In Day:

  • 4-H and FFA Members MUST bring their dog to interview judging at Mandatory Dog Check-in
  • 2017 Fairfield County Dog Project Identification Form & Vaccination Certificate, signed by a licensed veterinarian (this is the ONLY certificate accepted)

  • 2017 Fairfield County Junior Fair Dog Show Entry Form (NEW) For those who cannot attend Mandatory Dog Check-In Day:

Premier Exhibitor Testing Dates and Times

There are two opportunities that remain for Fairfield County 4-H and FFA youth to complete their Premier Exhibitor Test. The following species can participate: Dairy Cattle Breeding, Dairy Beef Feeder, Beef Cattle, Swine, Sheep, Dairy/Angora Goat, Meat/Market Goat, Pygmy Goat, Poultry, and Rabbits. For more information about Premier Exhibitor Contests for each specie, please view the Junior Fair Book.

  • Sunday, August 27th from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. in the Rickett’s Hall at the Fairfield County Fairgrounds **(Please note that August 27th is the correct date. The date of August 28th that was printed in the 4-H Member’s Handbook is incorrect!)**
  • Saturday, September 9th from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. in the Rickett’s Hall at the Fairfield County Fairgrounds

Corinne Somers Receives State 4-H Family Life & Child Development Achievement Award

The 2017 Ohio 4-H Achievement Awards were presented recently at the Nationwide & Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center in Columbus and Corinne Somers was recognized with Family Life & Child Development which was sponsored by Ken & Christa Davis.

Corinne Somers, 16, is an eight-year 4-H member active in family life and child development, leadership and sewing projects. She continues to learn leadership and responsibility skills through 4-H. Corinne is the daughter of Randy and Deanna Somers from Canal Winchester, Ohio and is a junior at Canal Winchester High School

4-H Achievement Award winners will attend the National 4-H Congress with youth from all over the country in November in Atlanta Georgia.

The evening was hosted by the Ohio 4-H Foundation.

Ohio 4-H is the youth development program of Ohio State University Extension, with more than 183,000 young Ohioans participating in 4-H clubs, groups and special interest programs.
