South Central Power – Fair Recognition

South Central Power continues to support the Fairfield County 4-H and Junior Fair Programs each year. With the upcoming Fairfield County Junior Fair Livestock Sales, they asked us to share their Fair Recognition Form – South Central Power. If any 4-H/FFA exhibitors are interested and their families are members of South Central Power Cooperative, please complete this form and return to communitydevelopment@southcentralpower.com.

Livestock Sale Committee seeking new Treasurer!

The Fairfield County Junior Fair Livestock Sale Committee (dba Ohio Fair Services) is seeking a new treasurer. This person would be expected to oversee all accounting of the livestock sales and work closely with the Sale Clerk. The treasurer would also be expected to attend all meetings of the Livestock Sale Committee and provide a monthly income/expense report. Those interested should reach out to Sale Committee President, Doug Shell, at 740-404-1505.

2020 Junior Fair Updates (by specie) are posted!

2020 Junior Fair Updates by specie have been organized and posted by specie on the OSU Extension/4-H website. Please note that this information is current as of 10/8/2020 and is subject to change. Dairy Steer Project on hold for 2020 fair – PLEASE SHARE!

The Fairfield County Agricultural Society Board of Directors has decided to place a hold on the Dairy Steer project for the 2020 fair due to concerns by some of the exhibitors. This next year, we look to investigate and research further the Dairy Steer project for possible future implementation.

Corrections to Livestock Sale Times in the 2019 Junior Fair Book

There are some errors in the Junior Fair Book under swine (page 28), sheep (page 31), meat/market goats (page 38), and rabbits (page 47) on the start times for sales on Thursday and Friday of the fair.

Please note that the following sale days, times, and species are correct. Please share this information with those members and volunteers in your club/chapter!

Thursday, October 10th – Junior Fair Livestock Sale begins at 5:00 p.m. with market beef, dairy products, dairy feeders, and market hogs.

Friday, October 11th – Junior Fair Livestock Sale begins at 10:00 a.m. with market sheep, market rabbits, market poultry, dairy goat products, and market goats.

Livestock Sale – Buyer Refreshment Table – Items Needed!

Each year the Livestock Sale Committee has a refreshment table for livestock buyers at the livestock auctions on Thursday evening October 10th and Friday, October 11th, 2019 during the fair. A 4-H Club organizes this table and other 4-H Clubs and FFA groups donate all the food. Contact Leslie at cooksey.25@osu.edu or 740-653-5419 if your club can help on either sale day in addition to donating various food items (i.e. cookies, chips, lemonade, coffee, etc).

Livestock Buyer Thank-you Poster Contest

Show your appreciation for the livestock buyers by making a poster thanking them for their support by participating in the poster contest sponsored by the Fairfield County Junior Fair Board. You may enter a poster as an individual or as a club. Posters are due to Junior Fair Office in the Show Arena between 12:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 5th, 2019. Posters will also be accepted on Sunday, October 6th, 2019 during open office hours in the Junior Fair Office. Posters will be displayed during the week in the Feeder Creek Show Arena. Cash prizes will be awarded!

Buyers Club enjoys successful inaugural year!

Thanks to the generous donations of several, the 2017 Fairfield County Junior Fair Sale Buyers Club was able to benefit at least 130 local youth as they marketed their Junior Fair projects. The Buyers Club was made up of local donors who, prior to the sale, pooled their dollars that were in turn used to bid on and purchase market animals during the 2017 Junior Fair Livestock Sale.

Sale Clerk Position Open for Fairfield County Junior Fair Livestock Sale

The Ohio Fair Services, Inc. has an opening for Sales Clerk. The Sales Clerk would be clerking the Fairfield County Junior Fair Livestock Sale. This person must have some accounting experience and computer skills (knowledge of Access databases is preferred). The Sales Clerk would commit time throughout the year for the livestock sale and significantly more time just prior, during, and following fair. Additionally, the Sales Clerk would be expected to attend Fairfield County Livestock Sale Committee meetings and provide reports as needed or requested.
