  • Conducts specialized tests and evaluations of materials and packaging samples in support of departmental activities including, but not limited to the following:
    • Material thickness/yield/basis weight
    • Surface energy, Coefficient of Friction
    • Tensile tests (seal strength, elongation, tensile strength, yield strength)
    • Tear resistance, impact/puncture strength
    • Heat seal and other package strength characterizations
    • Optical Microsopy
    • Material chemical characterization (FTIR)
    • Thermal analysis (DSC)
    • Barrier testing (WVTR, OTR), film noise characterization
  •  Maintains database of raw materials linked to product chemical composition

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field, with a curriculum that included chemistry and laboratory coursework
  • Up to five years of experience in a manufacturing setting
  • Experience in Infrared Spectroscopy highly preferred
  • Must have organizational skills with an ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Must possess good problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with employees
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Proficient in Excel and Word
  • Willingness to work as team member or independently

Chemist Position at Entegris

The Entegris manufacturing facility in Burnet, Texas synthesizes and works with high purity chemical vapor deposition precursors for the semiconductor industry.

They have an opening for B.S. or M.S. level chemist position. The chemist would work on a team of chemists, and needs experience in schlenk line technologies and air sensitive chemistry.

ACS Career Development and Mentorship Event

ACS-Columbus has been working with the College of Arts and Sciences to create a mentorship and career advancement program for students in chemistry fields around Columbus. Each event will focus on a specific topic for career advancement and will provide and opportunity for students to connect with members of ACS Columbus.

The first event will be held on a Saturday (Time and Date TBA) this February and will focus on ‘Finding Your Path.’ It will explore the differences in a career in academics, industry, government, or working independently. 2017 NMS Undergraduate Research Forum

Image result for nms research forumThe Natural and Mathematical Sciences announce the 2017 research forum for undergraduate students majoring in or conducting research in Actuarial Science, Astronomy and Astrophysics, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Computer and Information Science, Data Analytics, Evolution and Ecology, Earth Sciences, Mathematics, Microbiology, Molecular Genetics, Physics, and Zoology.

The Undergraduate Research Forum will be held day, Monday, April 10, 2017, 2:00–5:30 pm, in the atrium of the Physics Research Building. All students interested in undergraduate research in math and science are welcome to attend.

Certificates and a $50 gift card are awarded for the presenters of each poster, and prizes are given for the best poster award.

Abstract deadline: 12:00 pm (noon), Monday, April 3, 2017

The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry hires over 50 outstanding undergraduates per semester to teach our General Chemistry courses. If you’d like to improve your content knowledge at your job,help students through problems, and get teaching experience, TAing could be for you!

Qualifications:

  • Completed General Chemistry Sequence (1210/1220; 1610/1620; or 1910H/1920H) with an A or A- (preferred)
  • Accumulative GPA > 3.6
  • Taking classes during Autumn 2017
  • No other paid monthly student appointment during Autumn 2017 [this may include paid research]

Appointment Details:

  • Salary: $12/hour
  • Hours: 10-12 per week
  • Duration: Autumn Semester. Spring TAs will be decided based on need and satisfactory performance.
  • Responsibilities: Teach 1-3 hour lab of 25 students; Promptly grade assignments and prepare for teaching responsibilities; 1 weekly office hour; proctor all exams; attend weekly staff meetings.

New TA training will take place Monday, August 14th Monday, August 21st  during business hours Conflicts with training, including TAs who must live on campus,  should be stated on your application and described in detail if possible.  Early University housing fees will be paid by the department, if hired.
