Eli Lilly is currently looking for graduated students to fill their Scientist Formulation Chemist role. As a Formulation Scientist/Chemist/Engineer in Drug Product Development, Scientists are responsible for conducting pre-formulation characterization, formulation of parenteral and novel delivery systems, commercial development studies and technology transfer to manufacturing sites for assigned small and large molecule projects. The scientist will interact closely with other scientists and may be an integral part of multidisciplinary teams that provide support for product and process development as well as working with Discovery, API development, Analytical Development, Delivery Device R&D (DDR&D), CT Operations and Manufacturing.

OGR Post-Baccalaureate Program at Washington University in St. Louis

Washington University in St. Louis is seeking applicants for their postbac program, the Opportunities in Genomics Research (OGR) – Extensive Study program at The McDonnell Genome Institute. OGR is an National Human Genome Research Institute funded post-baccalaureate program (genome.wustl.edu), committed to increasing the number of underrepresented students who pursue PhD’s in genomics and related fields. This postbac includes research and enrichment activities such as GRE and graduate school preparation. 

They offer a competitive salary for students and the cost of living in St. Louis is quite low.  Areas of research that their students have pursued as a part of OGR include: genomics, bio-informatics, cancer biology, microbiology, developmental biology, cell biology and physiology. Candidates can interview with several faculty via phone or Skype prior to choosing a mentor. They are also happy to connect students to program alumni who are currently matriculating in our PhD programs.

Calling all undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctorate students from all science and engineering programs to attend Case Western Reserve University’s Polymer Initiative of Northeast Ohio (PiNO) poster competition and career fair on June 15, 2018 in Cleveland, Ohio. PiNO is a one-day job fair and conference that allows students seeking internships, co-ops, or full-time employment to present posters, network with industry representatives, and win cash prizes.

The Polymer Initiative of Northeast Ohio attracts industry from all STEM fields, not just polymers. This conference is geared towards, but not limited to, students in the following fields: macromolecular/polymer science and engineering, chemistry, chemical engineering, biomedical engineering, and materials science and engineering. Registration is $10 for students, researchers, and young professionals.

Undergraduate Graduation & Awards Banquet celebrates CBC Students, Award Winners, and Scholarship Recipients

The 2018 Undergraduate Graduation & Awards Banquet was home to graduating seniors, scholarship recipients, awards winners and their families.  Gathering to recognize academic excellence, CBC alumni, Dr. Marinda Wu ’71, was also in attendance to wish our graduates a bright future!

Dr. Susan Olesik, Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry Chair, began the evening by congratulating all students in attendance, honoring alumni and donors, and thanking the families of our students for supporting their pursuit of an education in the field of Chemistry or Biochemistry. Dr. Marinda Wu then spoke about her experiences as an undergraduate student at Ohio State and beyond.  She encouraged students to maintain passion and perseverance in order to be successful in future endeavors.

Vice Chair of Undergraduate Studies, Dr. Terry Gustafson, used the remainder of the evening to recognize our and congratulate our Scholarship and Award Recipients – thanking the many alumni & donors for their contributions which gives our students optimal opportunity.

This year, the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry will be awarding 135 bachelor’s degrees to undergraduate students.  Of those 135 students, there are 12 who have pursued a double major or dual degree and 55 who have earned a minor in at least one other field.  CBC students are diverse in their studies and academically successful with 13 graduating summa cum laude, 23 graduating magna cum laude, and 14 graduating cum laude.

New Histotechnology Program for Graduates

Do you have or will you soon have a bachelor’s degree in science with an emphasis on biology and/or chemistry? If your answer is yes, consider learning more about the newly created Certificate in Histotechnology Program. Histotechnologists are an integral component of most patient diagnoses. There is a current demand for high quality histotechnologists and positions are available in a variety of settings including human and animal clinics and hospitals, private pathology labs, forensics labs, and research labs. There are even opportunities to be a traveling tech!
