Women in Physical Science

All undergraduate students with research interests in all areas of the physical sciences are invited to attend this year’s Conference for Undergraduate Women in Physical Sciences (WoPhyS’17)

WoPhyS’17 will be held Thursday, November 9 – Saturday, November 11,2017 on the campus of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Participants will have opportunities to:

  • Present research accomplishments to peers and the academic community
  • Attend keynote talks given by invited scientists from academia, industry, and government labs
  • Participate in graduate school preparation workshops
  • Interact with science students and faculty from across the United States
  • Tour facilities and labs, including the Nebraska Center for Materials and Nanoscience

Registration for WoPhyS ’17 is available online, along with details about the conference location and accommodations. There is no registration fee and all local costs are covered. Travel scholarships are available for undergraduates who present a talk or poster.

DOW AgroSciences Internship

Are you interested in Research and Development summer internship opportunities? There are full-time positions available from May until August at the DOW AgroSciences headquarters located in Indianapolis, IN.

Application Deadline: November 1st, 2017 for the 2018 program.

The internship provides students with an opportunity to work closely with senior scientists to improve and develop their technical skills in an industry setting. Qualified interns should be pursuing a BS or MS degree in biology, chemistry, informatics, or closely related majors.

Internships with NASA

There will be an information session hosted soon to provide information about potential internships with NASA. This session will be hosted by other OSU students who have completed the internship themselves and are excited about sharing their experiences! The meeting will be Thursday, August 31st from 6:30 to 7:30 pm in CBEC Rm 110.

All majors are welcome to attend! Bring along something to take notes with, and come prepared to ask questions.

Part time, temporary positions providing database-building support for chemical literature curation for products is available at CAS, a division of the American Chemical Society.

Required Skills:

  • A degree in or working toward a degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related science.
  • Successful completion of at least one course of organic chemistry.
  • Familiarity with scientific terminology
  • Ability to work part time for at least 12 months and/or have at least a sophomore standing in a Biochemistry, Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering related degree program with at least 12 months remaining until graduation.
  • Good organizational, reading comprehension, problem solving, self-management, and communication skills

Volunteer Abroad with GIVE

GIVE is an international volunteer organization with diverse service opportunities around the world! When serving as a GIVE volunteer you will be working aside locals, completing projects such as: building schools out of recyclable materials, installing fresh water systems, teaching English, implementing artificial reefs, and helping to protect critically endangered species (such as sea turtles!). You can partner with GIVE and help to empower local communities in Thailand, Laos, Nicaragua, and Tanzania!

Along with the volunteer work, you will also be immersed in the local culture with adventures and excursions. These experiences include, but are not limited to, overnight safaris, hanging out with elephants, sand boarding down an active volcano, scuba diving, snorkeling, swimming with dolphins and sharks, surfing, and cave exploration!

Math Tutoring Position

Mathnasium of Upper Arlington is a math learning center for kids in grades 1-12. They are in search of responsible Ohio State students who are proficient in math, have an affinity for kids, and are interested in part-time employment as instructors. The students benefit greatly from learning with college students, who are also great role models for them.
