ASC Undergraduate Research Scholarship

Applications for the Spring 2021 Arts and Sciences Undergraduate Research Scholarship (URS) competition are now open.

Awards generally range from $250 to $10,000 and are applied toward university tuition and fees (your statement of account) for the 2021-2022 academic year. Applicants are not required to be members of the Arts and Sciences Honors Program; however, the committee generally gives preference to students who are candidates for graduation with research distinction or with honors research distinction, because they have demonstrated the sort of academic ability and commitment which indicates the likelihood of success in completing a major research project. Applicants must have received Junior standing by time of funding.

The deadline for applications and project advisor recommendations is Friday, March 5 and selections will be made by early May. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Arts and Sciences Honors Office at aschonors@osu.edu.

Summer Research at University of Nebraska

Application Deadline: March 1, 2021

The Nebraska Summer Research Program is a 10-week residential summer research experience that provides mentoring and research participation while allowing scholars to preview graduate school life at a research university. Participants all receive competitive stipends, room and board, travel/transport, graduate school preparation workshops, social and networking activities, and more.

Nebraska remains hopeful that it will be providing an in-person experience this summer. Should that change, applicants will be notified as soon as possible and a virtual experience will still be offered.

ASC Diversity Mini Case Study Competition

The Career Success Diversity Mini Case Study Competition is an event that brings together teams of top-level, diverse talent from the College of Arts and Sciences to utilize their skills to conduct strategic analysis and offer solutions to a diversity-focused organizational problem.

Participants will be provided one week to review the case, develop innovative solutions to the problem, and create a PowerPoint presentation. The teams will present their solutions via PowerPoint on the day of the competition (February 27th). Presentations are analyzed and evaluated by a panel of judges on the overall quality, effectiveness, and feasibility of the case presentation.

Spring 2021 Readiness Competencies Certificate

Employers are looking for ASC students to be “career ready,” which means that they are looking to recruit and hire students who can articulate their skills, talents, interests, and strengths. Are you interested in developing a new skill or receiving a professional certification? Career Success is excited to announce the Spring 2021 Readiness Competencies Certificate, designed to develop your professional skills!

ASC Career Success has partnered with New Horizons Computer Learning Centers and Kolena Exchange to offer students free professional certifications for the following hard and soft skills:

  • Microsoft Excel
  • Teamwork and Team Building
  • Business Writing
  • Communication Strategies
  • Presentation Skills
  • Civility in the Workplace
  • Conflict Resolution
  • Delivering Constructive Criticism

These courses are flexible. The average completion time is 6-8 hours. You will receive a formal certification after one live, day-long class or through self-guided modules, depending on the course you select.

2021 Pharmacy Scholars Program at UMich

Join UM Pharmacy TOMORROW, February 10th from 4:30-5pm for a Zoom info session to learn more about the Interdisciplinary REU Program and the Pharmacy Scholars Program.  RSVP here.

The Pharmacy Scholars Program (PSP) is a unique summer pre-pharmacy program open to college juniors, seniors, recent graduates, and individuals thinking about a career transition to pharmacy school.

The PSP is a four week virtual boot camp that provides coursework and activities that prepare students to be confident in the interview process, and first year pharmacy school courses. It also introduces them to faculty and administrators in the College, and exposes participants to the variety of career options one has with a PharmD degree. During the program you will have an opportunity to:

  • Attend admission information sessions
  • Receive one-on-one academic advising
  • Hear from a variety of faculty and student guest speakers
  • Explore various careers in pharmacy
  • Be mentored by current students
  • Review coursework in topics such as chemistry, math, and calculations
  • Be exposed to first year pharmacy school courses and more
  • Receive advice on writing a CV and personal statement
  • Receive a stipend!

UM College of Pharmacy: Research Experience for Undergraduates

The University of Michigan Interdisciplinary REU Program (Research Experiences for Undergraduates) in the Structure and Function of Proteins is designed to provide undergraduate students with a 10-week research experience in the areas of biochemistry, biophysics, cheminformatics, computational chemistry, enzymology, marine biology, molecular biology and plant biology.  The research projects featured in this program all involve studies of the structure and function of proteins.

REU Faculty Mentors represent the departments of Biochemistry; Chemistry; Medicinal Chemistry; Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology; Pathology, Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

The program will be held in a virtual format for the summer of 2021.  All research projects will involve virtual components.  Please note that the majority of the virtual projects offered will not require a computational background.

The program runs June 1 – August 4, 2021. It offers a stipend, housing allowance, and meal allowance.

Career Accelerator Fund (CAF) – Deadline Extended

The Career Accelerator Fund (CAF) provides financial support for College of Arts and Sciences students participating in unpaid or minimally paid internships, undergraduate research, or experiential learning opportunities.

The application deadline for Summer 2021 has been extended to February 12, 2021. That is a tight turn around to complete the application checklist, so don’t delay if you want to apply. You can learn more and find the application resources on the CAF website.

TEDxOhioStateUniversity – Horizons

TEDxOhioStateUniversity was founded in 2011 and hosted its first annual event in Spring of 2012. This year the organization will host its 10th annual main event and first ever fully virtual TEDx conference, Horizons. Although 2020 has posed challenges for everyone, TEDxOhioStateUniversity is looking forward and is ready to cross new horizons this spring.

The conference will consist of critically selected speakers who spread their ideas and innovations through short, yet powerful talks to a vast audience. The event features ideas from students, faculty, and alumni of the university. You can find a list of speakers on the organization’s website.

The event will take place on March 13th and 14th at 1:00pm each day. Registration is open and completely free!

The Woodrow Wilson Teaching Fellowships

Outstanding teachers can make a world of difference for students—particularly in high-need schools. The prestigious Woodrow Wilson Teaching Fellowship is looking to support those who want to share their STEM knowledge with young people. The Fellowship is open to college seniors, graduates, and career changers.

The Fellowship offers:

  • a $32,000 stipend;
  • admission into a competitive M.Ed. program at a WW partner university in Pennsylvania;
  • extensive clinical practice;
