  • Be currently enrolled in a major program in Arts and Sciences;

Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURF)

Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURF) awarded by the ACS Division of Organic Chemistry provide funding for summer research opportunities for outstanding undergraduate organic chemistry students attending colleges and universities in the United States.

These competitive fellowships ($5,000) are awarded on the merits of students’ research proposals, academic records, faculty recommendations and their passion for laboratory science. SURF fellowships will provide support for undergraduates in organic chemistry to carry out research at their respective colleges/universities in the summer between their junior and senior year. In addition, the program will provide financial support to enable recipients to visit an industrial campus in the fall for a dinner, award session, scientific talks, a tour of the campus and a poster session, where the results of the summer research investigations would be presented.

Application Deadline: February 18, 2022

ASC Undergraduate Research Scholarship

Applications for the Spring 2021 Arts and Sciences Undergraduate Research Scholarship (URS) competition are now open.

Awards generally range from $250 to $10,000 and are applied toward university tuition and fees (your statement of account) for the 2021-2022 academic year. Applicants are not required to be members of the Arts and Sciences Honors Program; however, the committee generally gives preference to students who are candidates for graduation with research distinction or with honors research distinction, because they have demonstrated the sort of academic ability and commitment which indicates the likelihood of success in completing a major research project. Applicants must have received Junior standing by time of funding.

The deadline for applications and project advisor recommendations is Friday, March 5 and selections will be made by early May. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Arts and Sciences Honors Office at aschonors@osu.edu.
