Volunteer at OSUCCC- The James

The James Cancer Hospital is currently accepting student volunteer applications for the 2019 summer semester! Interview invitations will be sent shortly after the application window closes, in which students will need to provide a letter of recommendation and a copy of their resume. Interviews will be held on April 12th, 2019. Students must be available from May 8th, 2019 to July 26th, 2019 and will volunteer regularly each week, most shifts being 2 hours in length.

Volunteer assignments are base on availability and include:

  • Way finding/escorting
  • Surgery family waiting area
  • Emergency Department
  • Patient care floors
  • Outpatient oncology clinics

University of Kentucky Offering New Masters Degree

 

The University of Kentucky is now offering a Masters degree in Forensic Toxicology and Analytical Genetics. This degree focuses on both Forensic Toxicology/Chemistry and Analytical Genetics/DNA, and is currently accepting applications for fall semester, 2019.

The Forensic Toxicology and Analytical Genetics degree will provide students with two internships which will prepare students for their careers, as well as preparation for courtroom testimony. Students who are interested may contact Dr. Isabel Mellon or the department of Toxicology and Cancer Biology. Apply to be a General Chemistry TA in Autumn 2018!

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry hires over 50 outstanding undergraduates per semester to teach our General Chemistry course.  If you’d like to improve your content knowledge at your job, help students through problems and get teaching experience, TAing could be for you!

Qualifications:

  • Completed General Chemistry Sequence (1210/1220; 1610/1620 or 1910H/1920H) with an A or A- (preferred)
  • Accumulative GPA > 3.6
  • Taking Classes during Autumn 2019
  •  No other paid student appointment during Autumn 2019 (this includes paid research)

Appointment Details:

  • Salary:  $12/hour
  • Hours:  10-12 per week
  • Responsibilities:  Teach 1-3 hour lab; promptly grade assignments and prepare for teaching responsibilities, 1 weekly office hour; proctor all exams, attend weekly staff meetings and beginning of the year training beginning Monday, August 12th.  Conflicts with training should be stated on your application and be described in detail, if possible.

PREP Application Deadline Extended

OSU’s Post-baccalaureate Research Education Program (PREP) is extending its deadline to apply. PREP prepares post-baccalaureate students for graduate school by providing one year of paid research experience. Accepted students will work with a mentor, and will also be provided with preparation assistance for the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) and graduate school applications, career development workshops, and opportunities to travel and network with other scientists across the nation.

Quantum Undergraduate Research at IBM and Princeton

Related imageQuantum Undergraduate Research at IBM and Princeton is a 10 week long summer research program from June 10 to August 16 that combines research at Princeton and research with IBM. Housing and a stipend will be provided for the first and second half of the program. During the first six weeks of the program, you can choose to work with any research group at Princeton. These different groups can be found here. During the last four weeks of the program, you will have the opportunity to perform cutting-edge research with IBM’s quantum computing group. Throughout the program there will be seminars and research exchanges focused in the field of quantum research. Apply here!
