Cloverbud Resources for 4-H Advisors

The Ohio 4-H Program has a variety of resources that can benefit 4-H Cloverbud Volunteers as you work with this younger audience in your clubs. The purpose of this email is to highlight these resources and help you increase your impact with Cloverbuds.

4-H Cloverbud Blog  http://u.osu.edu/cloverbudconnections/

  • The 4-H Cloverbud Connection Blog allows readers to subscribe to the site and receive an email when new posts are added. The site is searchable by key words and topic to help readers find content. New posts are added twice a month rather than quarterly in the previous format. The new format continues to provide a unique blend of education, activities, and fun to build and challenge 4-H Cloverbud Volunteers teaching kindergarten through second grade youth.

My 4-H Cloverbud Year

  • This fun book is a great way for Cloverbuds to learn the basics of 4-H and keep track of their activities and events. Completion of this book is optional, and can be done with or without the help of an adult leader. It can be repeated each year a child is a Cloverbud member, and is especially appropriate for older Cloverbud members as they prepare to transition to regular membership. Clover Cubes

  • Clover Cubes combine creativity, cooperation, interaction and fun into a great 4-H Cloverbud activity. Each Clover Cube has six discussion prompts that help children explore a particular topic and share answers with friends. Twelve cubes are included: All About Me, Animal Awareness, Art Adventures, Engineering Excellence, Fitness Fun, Food Favorites, 4-H FUN-damentals, Make Your Own, Math Mania, Technology Talk and Words That Start With. Cubes are easily assembled from brightly colored, punch-out shapes on heavy duty card stock. Purchase from your County Extension Office or OSU Extension Publications https://extensionpubs.osu.edu/clover-cubes/

Choose and Tell Cards

  • Intended for 4-H’s youngest participants, this educational piece is a colorful deck of 4” x 6” cards that introduce Cloverbuds to public speaking and communication skills. Forty-nine engaging activities are divided into four levels—from easy to difficult—of short, uncomplicated topics for demonstration speeches. Cards are color coded so that selecting and sorting cards is easy. (Additional supplies/materials are required.) Objectives are for participants to: 1) develop public speaking and communication skills, 2) gain confidence, and 3) foster important leadership skills. Purchase from your County Extension Office or OSU Extension Publications. Temporarily out of stock, but expected to be available soon.

2019 International Travel Opportunities!

Open Your World! Ohio 4-H International Exchange Programs are among the largest and most successful in the country. Ohio families host visitors from around the world, and Ohio youth & adults travel abroad to live with families in a variety of countries. Host Families & Youth Travelers are not required to be current 4-H members ~ in fact, they automatically become members by participating! Join us this year as Ohio 4-H celebrates 69 years of participation in the program!

2019 Host Family Opportunities
Don’t have the time and money to travel? Enjoy the exposure to different cultures which traveling brings? Looking for a low-cost project or experience in which the whole family can participate and grow together? The Ohio 4-H International Program allows families to gain the benefits of international travel right here at home, as they welcome a new son, daughter, brother or sister from another country into their homes. Host families come in many shapes and sizes and are responsible for lodging, meals, and family activities. Exchangees bring personal spending money, as well as medical/accident insurance. Host families are asked to “live their everyday life,” and to simply treat their visitor as a member of the family, with the same responsibilities and privileges as other members. Notes:
*Families hosting a youth must have their own child of the same gender and approximate age.
*Families should not have any native speakers of the language of their visitor, and can only host one visitor at a time.
Deadline: As soon as possible, by 2/28 for 1st-choice placement. Applications accepted until all youth are placed (usually April for females & May for males). However, please inquire whenever you learn about our program! Thank you!
