Embry-Riddle Aeronautical Undergraduate Research Program

Application Deadline: March 8, 2024

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is accepting applications for its Interdisciplinary Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Program. This immersive research program is set to take place from May 13 to July 20, 2024 at the university’s Daytona Beach Campus.

During this 10-week research experience, students will:

  • Conduct research in aerospace engineering, chemistry and applied space biology
  • Work in leading-edge laboratories alongside experienced faculty mentors
  • Receive a $5,000 stipend plus coverage of housing and meals

Applications are now open for undergraduates from any university, regardless of major.

Career Accelerator Fund

The Career Accelerator Fund (CAF) provides financial support for College of Arts and Sciences students participating in unpaid, minimally paid, or underpaid internships, undergraduate research, or experiential learning opportunities. You can learn more on the CAF website.

The application deadline for Summer 2024 opportunities is March 2, 2024. The application is found on Scholarship Universe. This is a university-wide platform and resource designed to aid in the search for available funding, awards, and scholarships.

University of Southern California REU

Application Deadline: February 25, 2024

University of Southern California Department of Chemistry is accepting applications for its summer 2024 Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU), titled “Snapshots of Chemistry”. This title was chosen to emphasize the program’s focus on gaining insights on key chemical features of molecular processes via visual images.

The program features a broad selection of research groups in biochemistry, inorganic chemistry, materials, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, theoretical chemistry, synthetic & medicinal chemistry, biophysics, energy & sustainability, and quantum science.

Program support includes $6,000 stipend, housing, student health insurance, and travel.

This REU is open to U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Women and underrepresented minorities are encouraged to apply.

DOE/NNSA Undergraduate Recruitment Workshop

Application Deadline: February 15, 2024

The Transuranic Chemistry Center of Research Excellence will host a DOE/NNSA Undergraduate Recruitment Workshop, intended for sophomore and junior undergraduates at any institution who are interested in careers in the national laboratories and potentially graduate research in one of the groups within the Center.

The Workshop will be held at Georgia Tech from April 11-13 (Thurs-Sat), 2024, and will consist of a day of networking and lectures, including talks from PIs and National Laboratory researchers, and a following day of lab tours, graduate school Q&A’s, and a chance to explore Atlanta.

Selected participants will learn about:

  • Chemistry PhD programs at Georgia Tech, University of California, Santa Barbara, University of Iowa, Washington State University, and the University of Akron;
  • the NNSA TRU-CoRE Program; and
  • careers in the US National Laboratories (PNNL, LLNL, LANL, and SRNL).

All travel costs and hotel accommodations will be covered along with meals during the program for those students accepted into the workshop. Details on invited speakers will be posted to the website soon.

Vanderbilt Nanoscience/ Nanoengineering REU

Application Deadline: February 15, 2024

The summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) at Vanderbilt Institute for Nanoscale Science and Engineering (VINSE) brings 10 students each summer to work with Vanderbilt faculty from Vanderbilt’s School of Engineering, College of Arts and Sciences, and School of Medicine. Students will gain interdisciplinary experience working with physicists, chemists, biologists, and engineers all working together to solve problems and create new scientific understanding.

Through VINSE, more than 50 faculty participants from Vanderbilt’s School of Engineering, College of Arts and Science, and School of Medicine inspire students by creating an atmosphere of excitement and creativity. Each REU participant will work directly with VINSE faculty members and their research groups and be part of the larger VINSE community.

Program Highlights include:

  • $5,000 stipend for room and board, plus $500 for travel to Nashville
  • Field trip to the Oak Ridge National Laboratory
  • Optional outreach opportunities with local high school students
  • Choose from over 30 projects
  • Participate in a poster competition to receive a travel award to attend a national professional meeting

This program will take place from May 29 – August 4, 2024.

The VINSE REU has a record of success, 95% of former VINSE NSF REU students either attend graduate school or are employed in STEM related fields.
