The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is currently accepting applications for Lab Assistants in the Demonstrations Laboratory for Spring 2026! Lab Assistant positions provide students with the opportunity to work in an active laboratory space, connect with students on a similar path, and learn science communication skills applicable to many careers.

What does the demo lab do?

  • Prepare and provide demos to lectures
  • Scientific outreach at libraries, schools, and events
  • Film educational videos for social media

In order to apply, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Completed Chem 1220 (or equivalent) by Spring 2026. Some organic chemistry knowledge is helpful.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Currently enrolled undergraduate student at The Ohio State University
  • Available to work a minimum of 12 hours per week.

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is currently accepting applications for BIOCHEM 4511 TA positions for Spring 2026. A TA position provides the opportunity to improve your knowledge of biochemistry, gain teaching experience, and help students.

In order to apply, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Completed Biochem 5613 AND Biochem 5614 with an A or A- (preferred) by the end of Fall 2025.
  • Cumulative GPA > 3.2
  • Enrolled in classes during Spring 2026
  • No other paid monthly student appointment during Spring 2026 (this includes paid research)

Appointment details are as follows:

  • Salary: $14/hour
  • Hours: 10-12/week
  • Responsibilities: attend course lectures; teach up to two recitation sections; grade assignments and prepare for teaching responsibilities; 1 office hour/week; proctor all exams; attend training and TA meetings

Training will take place during the first week of classes. Each UG TA will be paired with an experienced GTA mentor to facilitate their work.

BIOCHEM 4511 UG TA positions available for Spring 2025

CBC has several openings for Biochem 4511 Undergraduate Teaching Assistants (UGTAs) in Spring 2025.

UGTAs in this course attend lectures, lead recitations, provide office hours for students, proctor and grade exams, and attend staff meetings related to the course. Serving as a TA for this course is an excellent opportunity to develop strong professional skills in scientific communication.

The estimated time commitment can vary, but is generally ~10-12 hr/week, depending on your schedule and availability. Pay is hourly at $14/hr and you will be expected to submit a weekly timesheet.

You must have already completed Biochem 5613, and be currently enrolled in or have completed Biochem 5614 at the time of your application to be eligible for a position. The deadline for applications is 11:59pm on Monday November 25. We expect to notify students if they are chosen for the TA positions by the week of December 9th.

On-Campus Job Opportunity: Part-Time Lab Technician

CBC Professor, Dr. Anne Co, is seeking a current Senior student to join her team as a Part-Time Chemistry Laboratory Technician.

The pay rate is $15 per hour. The selected applicant can expect to work 10-15 hours per week (hours are flexible and negotiable.)

Qualifications

  • Senior student working towards a Bachelors or Associates Degree in Science, preferably in Chemistry
  • Organization skill is very important for this project
  • Must be comfortable working as part of a team
  • Must be comfortable working with chemicals

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and handle dilute 4% ammonium bifloride bath
  • Clean quartz tube in 4% ammonium bifloride bath
  • Assemble the quartz tube in
  • Conduct chemical synthesis following standard procedures.
  • Collect and test samples
  • Monitor processes to ensure they are operating correctly and consistently
  • Document all results neatly and precisely
  • Label and organize samples

  • Completed Chem 1210 & 1220. Some organic knowledge is helpful.
  • Cumulative GPA > 3.0
  • Enrolled in classes during Spring 2024
  • No other paid monthly student appointments during Spring 2024 (this includes paid research). Biweekly appointments are acceptable.

Appointment details are as follows:

  • Hours: 12-28/week
  • Typical Responsibilities: preparation and distribution of reagents, distribution and maintenance of lab equipment, completion of weekly safety checks, etc.
