Please Remember to THANK YOUR SPONSORS!

We need to make sure our sponsors receive thanks and appreciation for supporting Fairfield County’s youth. This would include applying for the Bertha Wilson Scholarship, receiving awards at Summerfest, as well as receiving awards at the Fairfield County Junior Fair.

Please make sure if you are receiving awards (or have received awards already this year), to write a thank you note to your sponsor for these awards. Several people took lots of time making sure there was an address label for your particular sponsor on the back of rosettes/ribbons and attached to trophies.

Please note that we often lose sponsors because they do not receive a note of appreciation and thanks from our youth members receiving the awards that they have sponsored. If a member is not sure of their sponsor for an award received at Summerfest or the Fair, please contact the Extension Office and we will help you get the information you need.

We also strongly encourage youth to share information about their project, award(s) received, and perhaps a picture! Sponsors really enjoy reading this information.

New Release – Young Engineers in Solar Energy

The Young Engineers in Solar Energy project book has finally been released!  To make Young Engineers in Solar Energy available as soon as possible, we’re posting it online as a downloadable PDF on the Ohio 4-H website.

For 2017, instead of completing all nine activities, members enrolled in the project can complete five activities of their choosing. They will be asked to provide feedback about the experience via a survey afterwards.

Here is the link to the web page for Young Engineers in Solar Energy. Members already enrolled in the project will receive an email with the link via 4-H Online by the end of the day on Monday.

Just a reminder, this project is NOT eligible for state fair as indicated in the Family Guide. It may be in the future, but definitely not for 2017.

If you have problems printing the PDF, let Missy (koenig.398@osu.edu or 740-652-7264) know and she can print one off for you at the office.  The cost for a print version will be $6.00.

New Project: Young Engineers in Solar Energy

A new project, Young Engineers in Solar Energy (project #550, intermediate skill level), is planned to debut in 2017 but will be delayed and we are not expecting to have a copy of this new project book until April. Please note: This project will not be eligible for State Fair (although it says so in the 2017 4-H Family Guide).

Project Description: Jumpstart your career in engineering with this hands-on introduction to the sun as an energy source. Nine activities lead you through the nature of light, earth’s relationship to the Sun, and the technology that allows us to use its energy. Directions for simple make-at-home scientific instruments included!
