CWF Presidential Inauguration Trip Winners: John VerDow and Augusta Kilbarger

This past January, two of our 4-H’ers traveled to Washington D.C. for the Presidential Inauguration. Their trip to Washington D.C. was from January 17th to the 21st, 2017 and was the first Citizenship Washington Focus – Presidential Inauguration program sponsored by 4-H. Thirteen Ohio counties were a part of this national program. This trip included workshops on the different roles in the democratic process including the government, media, president, and the individual. The Ohio 4-H delegation visited memorials, historical sites and museums, as well as attend Inauguration Day events. The Citizen Washington Focus – Presidential Inauguration trip was offered by the State 4-H Office to provide teens ages 14 to 19 the chance to develop civic engagement skills. Fairfield County delegates were chosen after a countywide application process. Applications were reviewed by 4-H volunteers, and one female and one male delegate were selected. Those interested were asked to write a 500-word essay answering one question: How would the 2017 Presidential Inauguration and 4-H impact your life and why do you want to experience this unique opportunity?

This trip was sponsored by donations from the Silent Auction of Baskets at the 2016 Fairfield County 4-H Endowment Legacy Dinner.

Augusta Kilbarger of the 4Creation 4-H Club and John VerDow of the Shooting Stars 4-H Club represented Fairfield County as part of a delegation of 28 members and four Ohio State University Extension Educators. We would like to congratulate John and Augusta for their participation and for representing Fairfield County 4-H.
