The State 4-H Office is currently accepting applications for Educational Assistants for the 2018 Ohio State Fair. These are paid positions. The first day of work would be July 21st, 2018 and ending on August 5, 2018. Housing is available in the Rhodes Center Dormitory. 4-H Antique, Craft, and Vendor Show: VENDORS WANTED!

The Fairfield County 4-H Advisory Committee is planning an Antique, Craft, and Vendor Show for Saturday, July 28th, 2018 at the Fairfield County Fairgrounds. The event will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The 4-H Advisory Committee is currently looking for vendors who can purchase a 10′ x 10′ space (includes 1 table and 2 chairs) for $25. AKC Dog Show Patch Program

Licking River Kennel Club is hosting a new program that AKC (American Kennel Club) offers called the Dog Patch Program. They will be hosting a fall show on Saturday, September 16th, 2017. Fairfield County Ag Society is Seeking Applicants for Ground Superintendent Position

The Fairfield County Agricultural Society is seeking a motivated individual with excellent communication and organization skills. This person should have general contracting experience and be able to operate skid loaders, tractors, and lifts.  Job duties include mowing and snow and ice removal to ensure the grounds are presentable and safe for public use, oversee boat and RV storage, and manage weekly events held on the fairgrounds. At the direction of the Fair Manager, this individual will also purchase supplies and materials, as well as inform and advise the Fairfield County Agricultural Society Board of any problems on the grounds that require maintenance and repairs. Compensation will be based on the amount of experience. Tractor Supply Company Announces 2017 ‘Great Neighbor’ Essay Contest

Tractor Supply Company, the largest rural lifestyle retailer in the United States, has just announced the launch of its first ever ‘Great Neighbor’ essay contest. The competition is a new component of the retailer’s Mobile Fair Tour — a 19-stop journey across the United States that will begin its route June 8 in Illinois and conclude Oct. 22 in Arkansas. Winners will be recognized during ceremonies at state and county fairs across the country.

Beginning Friday, March 24, Tractor Supply is asking 4-H and FFA members living in or near one of its 19 fair stops to submit essays in response to the following question: What does 4-H/FFA mean to you, and how has your organization allowed you to be the best neighbor you can be in your community?  Eligible 4-H and FFA members have until Monday, April 24, at 5 p.m. CST to submit an essay.  To submit an essay, review contest rules and regulations and view a list of fair stops, visit www.tractorsupply.com/fairtour.

Mid-States Wool Growers Open House

Mid-States Wool Growers, located at 9449 Basil Western Rd, Canal Winchester, will be hosting an Open House and “Make it with Wool’ Day on Saturday March 25, 2017 from 11 am to 1 pm.

The community is invited to look at and purchase pendelton wool fabric for 4-H Projects, Make it With Wool Competition and Guys and Gals lead classes. The supply store will also be open!

The 2016 Ohio State Fair Make it With Wool winners will be there with their outfits to answer questions, and there will be workshops, give aways and refreshments.

Grilllin’ with My Grandchild

OSU Extension Announces Grilling Program for Grandfathers & Grandchildren

“Grillin’ with My Grandchild,” a new program by Ohio State University Extension will have Fairfield County grandfathers and their grandchildren grilling dinners together, creating an electronic memory book, and having a great time.  The three-session program series will be held on consecutive Monday evenings, March 13, 20 & 27 from 5-7 p.m., at the Fairfield County Agriculture Center, 831 College Avenue, Lancaster. The program fee is $15 per pair, and is open to Fairfield County grandfathers and one of their grandchildren, grades 5-12. Space is limited to the first 10 grandfathers who register. “This new program is not only informational but it’s designed to create some cherished and lasting memories for grandfathers and their grandchildren,” said professor Jim Bates, Field Specialist with OSU Extension and director of the project. Wilmington College – Little International Showmanship Contest

The Wilmington College – Little International is a showmanship contest designed to teach 4-H and FFA members how to show multiple species of livestock. This year Little International will be held on April 1st, 2017. This event will be located at the Wilmington College Equine Center. Registration will be from 7:00AM-8:00AM. From 8:00AM-9:00AM we will have demonstrations on how to show each species, with the contest starting promptly afterwards.

There will be THREE age divisions:

  •                Beginner (Ages 9-12)
  •                Intermediate (Ages 13-16)
  •                Senior (Ages 17-21)

There will be FOUR species that will be shown:

  •                Equine
  •                Beef Cattle
  •                Sheep
  •                Goats

Participants can either choose to show all four species OR they can pick whichever species they would like to show; however it is a great learning experience. ALL ANIMALS AND SHOW EQUIPMENT WILL BE PROVIDED.

This is a perfect opportunity for youth to learn or enhance their showmanship skills and gain new interests in showing livestock.

Ohio Pork Producer – Communications Intern

The Ohio Pork Council is seeking a talented communications intern for the summer! The OPC intern will be responsible for assisting in communication with members and the public by writing press releases, developing graphics and using social media. the intern is expected to assist with the Ohio State Fair, serving as the Pork Food Stand Assistant Manager, and support producer education programs to help increase member participation and awareness of Pork Checkoff programs. As part of the internship program, the student will attend a national intern-training seminar that is held in conjunction with the World Pork Expo. Interns will receive compensation of up to $4,000 in the form of bi-weekly salary of scholarship.
