Skillathons will return to the Fairfield County Junior Fair in 2020 in an effort to stimulate youth to learn more about their animal projects both individually and within their club/chapter. Although Skillathons will be scored, they will be for completion (not competition) in 2020.
Skillathons are required for those who wish to exhibit at the 2020 Fairfield County Junior Fair. Youth must complete at least one Skillathon. Youth can participate in more than one species if they intend to participate in the Premier Exhibitor for that respective species. For more information: Refer to Junior Fair Book.
Skillathons will be offered virtually for all beef, dairy, goat, poultry, rabbit (except Pet Rabbits), sheep, swine, dog, horse, alpaca/llama projects and will be available for completion from September 1-21, 2020.
For those members that do not have access to technology that would support virtual completion, limited appointments will be offered on September 20th for access to Chromebooks and internet at the fairgrounds. This will be the only in-person date offered. Registration for in-person will open on September 1st.
Skillathons may include (but are not limited to) animal anatomy/body parts, breeding and reproduction, feeds and nutrition, current events, diseases and animal health, equipment ID, feed ID, Quality Assurance, breeds, marketing, meat cuts, and record-keeping. For 2020, Skillathon questions will primarily be from specie resource books.
Youth who participated in the Ohio Youth Skillathons will be able to count this Skillathon for their county requirement if they do not plan to participate in Premier Exhibitor. Those who wish to pursue Premier Exhibitor will need complete the county Skillathon for each species they plan to compete in. Additional details will be forthcoming regarding Premier Exhibitor.
Please continue to work on your 4-H and FFA Project Books. Project Books will be collected and reviewed at the county level prior to fair. Stay tuned for updates on this process.
