Ohio State Fair In-Person Goat Skillathon: Friday, August 6th, 2021

All 4-H/FFA members are invited to participate in the Ohio State Fair In-Person Goat Skillathon on Friday, August 6th from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. in the Voinovich Livestock Center Mezzanine (2nd Floor). Youth do not have to exhibit goat projects at the Ohio State Fair to participate in this event.

Note: To be eligible for the Ohio State Fair Outstanding Market Exhibitor, youth MUST compete at the in-person Goat Skillathon. Topics to be covered include Products, Medication & Handling, Nutrition & Digestion, Anatomy. For more information about the OSF Goat Skillathon, click here.

Fairfield County Youth who participate in any Ohio State Fair Virtual or In-Person Skillathon will meet the Fairfield County Junior Fair Skillathon Requirement. Please note that if members only compete in OSF Skillathons, they will be required to submit their 4-H/FFA Project Books for all “fair projects” to the Fairfield County Extension Office by October 1st to be reviewed. Also, if members with to participate in the Fairfield County Premier Exhibitor Program, they must complete that respective specie’s Skillathon at the Fairfield County Skillathon Day (September 11th or 12th).

Ohio State Fair In-Person Dairy Skillathon: Monday, August 2nd, 2021

All 4-H/FFA members are invited to participate in the Ohio State Fair In-Person Dairy Skillathon on Monday, August 2nd from 12:00-4:00 p.m. in the Voinovich Livestock Center Mezzanine (2nd Floor). Youth do not have to exhibit dairy projects at the Ohio State Fair to participate in this event.

Topics to be covered include Nutrition & Digestion, Health & Treatment, Mammary Function & Dairy Products, Environmental Stewardship. For more information about the OSF Dairy Skillathon, click here.

Market and MQP Hog Tagging: July 19th – July 30th

Please be flexible and work with the scheduling of your club/chapter advisor as they make plans to visit your homes/farms to tag all market hogs for the 2021 Fairfield County Fair. All 4-H and FFA market hogs must be tagged between July 19th and July 30th, 2021. Fairfield County Market/MQP Hog possession date was July 15th. As a reminder, each exhibitor should complete a Fairfield County Junior Fair GOAT-SHEEP-HOG-DAIRY FEEDER Tag-in Form 2021 and have this form ready for your advisor(s) when they come to tag your animals.

Missed judging last week? Sign up for Late Judging!

We strongly encourage completion of 4-H projects. Although members may have not completed or had a chance to participate in judging last week, we would like to invite them to sign up for late judging. Late judging (for grade only) will be held on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at the Extension Office by appointment between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. You must call the Extension Office at 740-653-5419 to schedule an interview time. 

State Fair Packets – Available for pickup!

For those youth who qualified for the Ohio State Fair after be selected this week during summer project judging can now pickup their State Fair packets at the Extension Office. Office hours are 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Additionally, if you were selected for State Fair, but cannot attend…. PLEASE DO NOT pick up your packet! We will need to know that you do not plan to attend so that we cannot contact the alternate and pass on the State Fair packet to alternate.

Ohio 4-H Celebration of Youth: 4-H Leading the Way is October 2nd at Leed’s Farm in Ostrander, Ohio

October 2, 2021 4-H Celebration of Youth: 4-H Leading the Way (Ostrander)—6:30 p.m. This event is open to all friends of 4-H age 21 and older. The 24th annual Ohio 4-H fundraiser will be held at Leeds Farm in Ostrander, Ohio, on Saturday, Oct. 2, at 6:30 p.m. Please plan to join us for an evening of fall fun on the farm. This year’s event includes casual dress and farm activities. Individual tickets are $100. Tickets for young adults ages 21–30 are buy one, get one free.
