Fairfield County Awarded $600 from National Raise Your Hand Initiative

Fairfield County youth programs are benefiting from Ohio’s recent victory in the national 4-H Raise Your Hand competition.

As one of 35 counties with the highest participation, Fairfield County received $600 to use for youth programs.

“It is exciting to see the community and alumni support of our 4-H youth here in Fairfield County. They continue to care and want to see today’s youth succeed in an organization that is near and dear to their hearts. We could not have one of the largest 4-H programs in Ohio without the support of our parents, alumni, and community members,” said Leslie Cooks, 4-H Extension Educator in Fairfield County.

For the second year in a row, Ohio 4-H alumni and friends raised nearly 18,000 hands to bring home the $20,000 prize to their local 4-H programs in the national Raise Your Hand competition

“I am proud that Ohio 4-H once again will benefit due to the overwhelming support of our loyal community,” said Cathann A. Kress, vice president for agricultural administration and dean of The Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. “Thank you all for your dedication and support of our 4-H youth.”

Attention Junior Fair Barrow MQP participants, parents and advisors

As you’re aware, due to the constraints of harvesting and processing we are limited in Fairfield County to only accepting 30 entries in the Jr. Fair Barrow MQP (Muscle Quality & Performance) contest. Presently 59 youth have signed up to participate in the project.

At the same time, we also know that each year several youth who sign up early in the year for Barrow MQP later choose not to purchase a barrow, decide to take their barrow for the ‘live’ show instead of MQP, or for one of a variety of other reasons they no longer plan to complete MQP.

Since the July 15 deadline for acquiring youth project pigs in Fairfield County has passed, if advisors, parents or youth know of someone who previously signed up for Barrow MQP but no longer plan to participate, we ask that you Continue reading Attention Junior Fair Barrow MQP participants, parents and advisors
