Marine Physical Laboratory (MPL) Summer Internship Program

The Marine Physical Laboratory (MPL) at the world renowned Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO), UC San Diego, in La Jolla, California is currently seeking applicants for its summer internship program.

The MPL Summer Internship program is a paid, ten-week research program where students complete their own individual research project under the mentorship of some of the most notable scientists in the world. In addition to their research, students will attend weekly seminars, participate in hands-on activities, and more. Interns receive a $18.00/hour salary and a $6,000 taxable stipend to offset costs of housing, meals, transportation, etc. issued upon arrival.

Eligibility:

  • Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents currently enrolled in their first, second, or third year of undergraduate status. Senior year undergrads are not eligible.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age as of the internship start date.
  • Applicants must be available to start in June 2025 and work 40 hours/week for entire duration of the internship (10 consecutive weeks).

Genentech 2025 Summer Internship (Proteomic and Genomic Technologies)

The Genentech Proteomic & Genomic Technologies Department is seeking a highly motivated summer intern to support projects within the immunopeptidome and surface proteomics group. The group develops and uses mass spectrometry based methods to investigate peptide and protein changes and we are also investigating novel protein non mass spectrometry based sequencing technologies.

This internship position is located in South San Francisco, on-site. It is an intensive 12-week, full-time (40 hours per week), paid internship.

In this hands-on role, the candidate will participate in an investigative project that explores novel protein sequencing approaches and its potential application to the drug discovery pipeline at Genentech.

The program start dates are in May/June 2025. A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

Undergraduate students pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Biochemistry, Biology, Analytical Chemistry, or Biotechnology meet the education parameters for this role.

Pfizer’s Summer Student Worker Program 2021

Pfizer Medicinal Chemistry is looking for talented undergraduate and graduate students with a strong interest in synthetic organic chemistry to participate in the company’s Summer Student Worker Program (SWP). Research will be conducted at one of Pfizer’s major R&D sites in Groton, Connecticut or La Jolla, California.

Students will have the opportunity to work for 10-12 weeks (typically May to August) directly with a medicinal chemist investigating a novel research project or as part of a larger project team. The internship includes various programs introducing the students to scientists within the Pfizer organization and concludes with a poster session.

These positions are paid, housing and transportation to the Pfizer site are not included but housing is potentially available through local universities which can be reached by bike/car/carshare. More information will be provided during the phone interview.
