ASC Career Success, in collaboration with the Biological Sciences Scholars, are excited to host several senior leadership panelists and speakers representing the wealth of opportunities afforded to ASC students within the biotechnology industry.

This exciting opportunity opens with an introductory keynote from Jamie Fitch, OSU Molecular Genetics alumnus and co-founder of OnlineMedEd, a medical education tech startup.

The industry panel to follow features senior leaders from Armatus Bio, Clarametyx Biosciences, AmplifyBio, and Oakwood Labs. The panel will showcase areas for growth in the biotechnology industry and highlight key skills/experiences for students aspiring to become competitive within the field.

ASC Career Success: Careers in Biotech

The biotech sector is booming in central Ohio and across our region! Join some of the leading companies for an evening of networking, as part of the Careers in Biotech Connections Event on Monday, February 6th from 4 – 6 PM in Enarson Classroom Building 311.

The event will open with a panel discussion about trends in biotech along with existing and emerging career paths, advice for rising talent in the biotech space, and more. The event will conclude with ample opportunity to network. Spots are limited and students can register here.

Careers in Biotech Event

Join ASC Career Success for an undergraduate geared career event. This will allow students to explore careers in biotech, while learning about trends in the field, existing and emerging career paths, and more. Students will be able to hear from representatives from the Biotech industry from partners such as:

  • Sarepta Therapeutics

All students are welcome to attend, specifically students interested in biotech career paths, looking to connect to professionals, or explore more career options. Students are also encouraged to prepare for the event by familiarizing themselves with the various companies and develop questions beforehand. Resume’s may also help optimize students experience. Professional attire is encouraged but not required.

This event will be held on Tuesday, February 1st from 4:30-6pm in Journalism Building 270.

TOMORROW: Forge Biologics Virtual Recruiting Event

Forge Biologics is a gene therapy development engine, focused on enabling access to life changing gene therapies and helping bring them from idea into reality. Forge is hiring for many positions over the next few months.  They have a wide range of needs for students at all levels (and alumni.) Job Opening: Laboratory Operations Associate

Manus Bio is a next-generation industrial biotechnology company based in Cambridge, Massachusetts that produces plant-based ingredients. The company uses a variety of patented and proprietary technologies for engineering microbes for the production of specialty chemicals, such as food ingredients, agricultural chemicals, and pharmaceuticals.

Manus Bio is seeking a self-motivated and highly organized individual for a position that will specialize in and take ownership responsibility of laboratory operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Mastery in Manus Bio SOPs and their execution involving reagent, media, and lab consumable preparation.  Ability to train others to execute these tasks to the same high standard
  • Maintain stellar lab organization to ensure operational excellence within the R&D team
  • Maintain and facilitate use of our in-house inventory platforms to a highly organized standard
  • Order and stock lab supplies and consumables.  Maintain and later build relationships with outside vendors
  • Maintain laboratory equipment to pristine condition and facilitate repairs when needed
  • Develop ability to design and implement modifications to protocols and procedures that increase efficiency of Manus Bio SOPs

Required Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or similar discipline with 1-3 years in research lab technician, operations, or management experience

NCSU Master of Microbial Biotechnology

The Master of Microbial Biotechnology (MMB) program at North Carolina State University offers you a unique blend of science and business. It combines real-world bioscience industry projects and internships to give you the experience you need to be successful. This is a two-year, non-thesis program and is located 15 miles from the Research Triangle Park — the heart of the biotech industry.

Students in the MMB program participate in immersive industry experiences, professional networking, MBA-level coursework, practicum projects, and internships. Graduates leave ready to tackle challenges and excel in careers in the biotechnology industry.

University of Florida-Department of Medicinal Chemistry

The Department of Medicinal Chemistry in the College of Pharmacy at the University of Florida is looking for prospective chemistry students interested in a graduate degree! Their mission is to conduct basic and applied research in chemistry, biochemistry, and related disciplines as it relates to drug design and discovery. The department focuses on all aspects of drug design, discovery and development with a unique blend of the physical and biological sciences.

Stipends for graduate research assistants start at $31,000, and those with a Pharm.D.  are eligible for additional funding. Graduates of the program earn a Ph.D. in pharmaceutical sciences, with a major in medicinal chemistry. Former graduates of this program have landed positions at major research universities, government agencies, and biotech companies.

Microbiology Laboratory Internship

Guild BioSciences is a growing biotech company developing biologically oriented products for dynamic high-impact applications. They are seeking a long-term to support the core research objectives of several outgoing projects. The intern will be mentored to gain experience in basic microbiology, genetics, and product-oriented research.

The candidate must be enrolled in a Bachelors or Graduate Degree program with focus in microbiology, molecular genetics, molecular biology, or related scientific disciplines. Previous hands-on laboratory experience is required. Preferred work schedule is at least three consecutive days during normal business hours, approximately 20 hrs/week.
