Ohio State Fair Arts Information

Greetings from the Ohio State Fair Arts!  I wanted to share with you all the arts opportunities we are offering Ohio youth this year and hope you will encourage your groups/members to enter. 2016 information can be found online at www.ohiostatefair.com for the Youth Arts Exhibition and competition information for Creative Arts (Culinary and Handcrafted).  The Youth Arts Exhibition is open to Ohio youth in grades 1-12 and the Creative Arts competitions are open to youth ages 11 and up unless noted on the competition page.  Information and entry information can be found at the following links and deadline to enter is June 20, 2016.  All entries and artwork images (if required) are accepted online.

Creative Arts Culinary & Baking: http://ohiostatefair.com/culinary/

Creative Arts Handcrafted:            http://ohiostatefair.com/creative-arts/

The Youth Arts Exhibition is a juried exhibition whereby jurors pre-select the work to be included in the exhibition.  The number of pieces accepted into the exhibition varies but on average is around 250-300 pieces.  Selected works are then eligible for awards which jurors select on site.  All Creative Arts competition entries, however, are accepted, judged and displayed.  This year Creative and Youth Arts will be featured in the new Cardinal Hall building!

Thank you for sharing the Ohio State Fair arts opportunities with your youth groups.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. I look forward to seeing you at the Fair!

Best,

Sandy Libertini

Quality Assurance – Assistant Instructor Training

Quality Assurance training will remain in the clubs/chapters again this year. Advisors need to attend a training session to be up to date on the Good Production Practices (GPPs) being covered for 2016. We are looking for interested “teachers” to be trained and certified to educate livestock exhibitors on the required GPP’s. If interested, adult volunteers must RSVP to attend a training to become a certified Assistant Instructor for 2016. Contact Leslie Cooksey at cooksey.25@osu.edu or 740-652-7260 to RSVP so that materials can be prepared for each training.

Training dates for Assistant Instructors are:

Monday, February 29th from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Rickett’s Hall at the Fairfield County Fairgrounds

Monday, March 21st from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Rickett’s Hall at the Fairfield County Fairgrounds

*Please indicate which training you plan to come to when submitting your RSVP!

2016 Junior Fair Beef News and Tagging Information

Market steer and heifer weigh-in and tagging will take place on Saturday, March 5, 2015 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Fairfield Cattle Company on Bowen Road in Canal Winchester. Exhibitors who plan to show a market steer or market heifer in the 2016 Fairfield County Junior Beef Show must have their animals weighed in, tagged (with both visual and EID tags), and nose printed.

All beef exhibitors are required to complete a housing form for all beef animals by the designated possession date, or in the case of market beef, by the tag-in date. These forms will be maintained in the Senior Fair Board office. The Housing Form is now required for each beef animal that each youth maintains for their project and can be found at this link. Every exhibitor must submit a completed form at weigh-in on the 5th.

Additional updates to 2016 Fairfield County Junior Fair Beef Rules can be found in the Junior Fair Beef Newsletter.
