Ohio State Young Leaders Conference

For the fourth year in a row, the men of Alpha Gamma Rho and the women of Sigma Alpha at The Ohio State University will be hosting a Young Leaders Conference for all high school age students with an interest in agriculture. The event is geared toward helping students gain both professional and leadership skills, with a focus being in the agricultural industry.

Attached is the invitation as well as the agenda (ylc-agenda and ylc-invitation). To register students, please have them follow the link to the google form. Checks to register can be made to Sigma Alpha, with “YLC” in the memo line.

The 2017 Young Leaders Conference will be held on Friday, Feb. 24, 2017.

WinField United Careers in Agriculture Scholarship Program – due February 10, 2017

Scholarships worth $1,000 will be awarded to 10 high school seniors and 10 college students in their first or second year who demonstrate scholastic achievement, leadership in agriculture and a perceived ability to contribute to agriculture in the future.

The Careers in Agriculture Scholarship Program is available to high school graduating seniors and first or second year college students pursuing two- or four-year degrees in agronomy, crop production, or closely related fields.

To qualify for the program, a student must:

  • Be a high school senior, graduating in spring of 2017; or
  • Be a college freshman or sophomore;
  • Demonstrate leadership abilities and academic performance;
  • Complete an application including two reference letters and official transcript; and
  • Write essays describing the importance of farmer cooperatives, and why he or she is interested in an agricultural career.

Since its formation 26 years ago, the Careers in Agriculture Scholarship Program have awarded more than $500,000 to young adults who share the same commitment to agronomy, excellence and the cooperative system.

Alpha Sigma Upsilon – Ohio State Campus Visit Day

On Friday April 15th, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. the women of Alpha Sigma Upsilon sorority (at The Ohio State University) are sponsoring an Ohio State University main campus visit day for committed incoming freshman, transition, and transfer women.

During the visit day they plan to talk with all incoming ladies about Ohio State main campus, different majors, helpful hints, a background to their organization, have a delicious cookout, and have a personal in depth tour based off the interests of the incoming women. They hope this visit day will not only be informative but also an opportunity for the incoming women to visit a large group of girls who are similar to them and to have a chance to make a connection with a group before fall semester.

ASU Visit

Ag is Cool Program – Spread the word!

Spread the word about ODA’s Ag is Cool program to 4-H advisors and participants. Ag is Cool has two main components. The first is a Creative Expression Contest which is administered by ODA. The second component of the Ag is Cool program is offered at the Ohio State Fair each year by ODA, OFBF and Ohio’s Commodity Groups. The objective of the program is to teach children about Ohio agriculture through hands-on activities as they travel around the fairgrounds to barns and ag displays.  Attached is a flyer to educate 4-H advisors about both components and share with their students.

New Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation Scholarship – Due 6/30/2016

A new memorial scholarship has been set up to be administered through the Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation. The scholarship is in honor of Dr. John (Jack) Judy, who died in April 2015. One $1,500 scholarship will be awarded annually to a second-year college student who is either a member, or whose parents are members of the Ohio Sheep Improvement Association. Applications for the Dr. Jack Judy Memorial Scholarship are due June 30.

Also, don’t forget that March 31 is the deadline for these scholarships: Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation Scholar, Women’s Leadership in Agriculture Scholarship Program, Darwin Bryan Scholarship Fund and Cindy Hollingshead Scholarship Fund.

CHS Foundation Scholarship

Applications for the 2016-2017 High School Scholarship Program are now available.

CHS High School Scholarships Program

Graduating high school seniors pursuing a degree in an agricultural-related field at any college or university throughout the United States and Canada are invited to apply for one of 100 $1,000 scholarships.

CHS Scholars Program

In 2016 CHS will fund more than 200 scholarships to students enrolled in an agricultural-related program at partnering two- and four-year colleges and universities throughout the United States. Scholarship awards range from $1,000 to $2,000.

Deadline Extended for Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation Scholarships! Due 3/31/2016

The deadline for Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation scholarships has been extended to March 31, 2016. A total of $18,000 in scholarships is available to rural, suburban and urban Ohio students who are pursuing degrees connected in some way to agriculture. Twelve $1,500 scholarships will be awarded through four programs: Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation Scholar, Women’s Leadership in Agriculture Scholarship Program, Darwin Bryan Scholarship Fund and Cindy Hollingshead Scholarship Fund. Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation Scholarships – due 2/29/2016

Time’s almost up to apply for a scholarship offered through the Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation. The foundation has $18,000 in scholarships available to Ohio students from rural, suburban and urban communities who are pursuing degrees connected in some way to agriculture. A total of 12 $1,500 scholarships will be awarded through four programs: Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation Scholar, Women’s Leadership in Agriculture Scholarship Program, Darwin Bryan Scholarship Fund and Cindy Hollingshead Scholarship Fund. Ohio Agricultural Council Scholarships due 2/29/2016

The Ohio Agricultural Council is offering up to six $1,500 scholarships to assist students pursuing agricultural-related studies and to help promote agriculture and agri-business as a growing field of career opportunities.
