Shooting Sports Open House – Rescheduled for Sunday, Jan 18th at 1pm

The new date for the 2026 Fairfield County Shooting Sports Open House is Sunday, January 18, 2026, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the Fairfield County Ag Center (831 College Avenue, Lancaster, OH 43130)

Attendance Requirement

To participate in the 2026 Fairfield County Shooting Sports program, both the youth member and a parent or guardian must attend this event. During the Open House, families will take part in a required parent meeting, learning about the disciplines offered, complete registration forms, and pay club dues. If you are a returning 4-H member, please be sure to bring your 4-HOnline log in information, as we will also be completing 4-HOnline enrollment that day.

Important Notes for the 2026 Season

  1. Registration: All registration will take place during the Open House on Sunday, Jan 18, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. Attendance by both the youth and parent or guardian is required.
  2. Archery Discipline: Archery will once again be the final discipline offered this year. Advisors will coordinate with members and the Extension Office for those interested in summer judging for archery.
  3. Participation Limits. Each discipline has a maximum number of participants. Registration will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis during the Open House.

Summer Judging Results – Available Online!

Congrats to all 4-H members who completed their projects and participated in judging this week! You all did a great job… keep up the great work!

All award winners will be invited to attend Summerfest to receive their awards. Summerfest will be held on Sunday, August 17th at 6:00 p.m. at the Old General Sherman Building. Emailed invitations will be sent to county award winners in a few weeks.

4-H Summer Judging – Scheduling will open the week of June 16th

Hello 4-H Members! We hope that you are busy working on your 4-H projects this summer. Here are a few important updates to be aware of:

  • All Summer Judged Projects will be judged on the following days: Monday, July 14th and Tuesday, July 15th. Scheduling for these dates will open the week of June 16th (watch email/blog posts for the scheduling link). Please be aware that certain projects will be judged on certain days – please review the 2025 4-H Member Handbook to determine your project judging day(s). Writing Projects have been moved to Monday, July 14th.

If you cannot attend judging during this week, you can:

  1. Attend Late Judging on Tuesday, July 29th from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. by calling 740-653-5419 to schedule an appointment. Participation in Late Judging receives a grade only and is not eligible for county awards or state fair consideration.
  2. Advisor Completion – Talk to your club advisor as they can work with you to review your project for completion only. No grades or awards will be given with this option.

Please review the 2025 4-H Member Handbook as you complete your project(s) and prepare for judging.

Youth enrolled in the Tractor Maintenance Club or Shooting Sports Club do not need to complete summer judging if they met all completion requirements at the club level for Small Engine/Tractor Projects and or 700 level Shooting Sports disciplines (Shotgun, Rifle, Archery). However, if they wish to qualify for the Ohio State Fair for any of these projects, they must attend summer judging for each project.

Youth enrolled in Cake Decorating have the option for summer judging completion or county fair completion. If youth wish to qualify for the Ohio State Fair, they must complete summer judging.

Food and Nutrition Project Members should also review their project book inserts. These were tucked inside your project book if books were purchased at the Fairfield County Extension Office. If needed, you can download these here: Menu Planning Worksheet and Food Project Insert packet. Members WILL NOT bring food to judging.

Clothing Project Members should also review their project book inserts. These were tucked inside your project book if books were purchased at the Fairfield County Extension Office. If needed, you can download these here: Style Revue Card and Clothing Project Insert packet.

  • Clothing Project Members plan to attend the Style Revue at Liberty Union High School, July 14th, 7:00 p.m. This is a required part of judging to be eligible for county awards and State Fair participation.

Ohio 4-H Shooting Sports has opened Junior Camp registration. Youth in grades 3-6 are invited to Canter’s Cave 4-H Camp from June 13 to 15 for education sessions on basic shooting and archery disciplines. Additional information about the camp can be found on the Ohio 4-H Shooting Sports website. Registration is open through May 16 and can be completed online. Camp counselors are also encouraged to apply and should do so before May 1.

2024 Summer Judging Results

Wow! 403 project judged in two days at 4-H Summer Judging! This includes 273 of our 4-H project members! We are so proud of all members who worked so hard on these projects (additional photos coming soon!).

If selected as an Ohio State Fair Participant – please confirm your participation by picking up your OSF packet as soon as possible at the Extension Office (831 College Ave, Suite D). If you can not attend OSF, please notify the office so that we can reach out to the alternate! We need to finalize OSF participation by Monday, July 22nd.
Award winners will receive information later this month about 4-H Summerfest (scheduled for Sunday, August 18th at 6:00 p.m. at the Liberty Center).

Camp Counselor Opportunity: Ohio 4-H Shooting Sports Camps

The Camp Counselor Application is extended to May 13th for both Junior and Senior Ohio 4-H Shooting Sports Camps. 

  • Counselor’s are asked to arrive for Junior Camp in the evening on June 6th and plan to stay on June 9th until their campers have all been picked up.
  • Counselor’s are asked to arrive for Senior camp in the evening of July 13th and plan to stay until their campers have all been picked up on July 19th.

Camp Opportunity: Senior Shooting Sports Camp at Canter’s Cave (scholarships available)

Ohio 4-H Shooting Sports Senior Camp registration is due June 13th. Senior Camp is for grades 7-12 and will be held at Canter’s Cave 4-H Camp July 14-19. The Friends of Ohio 4-H are sponsoring 2 scholarships in honor of Ms. Anita Harris and Justin Marteney for Senior Camp and that deadline is June 1st.
