2024 Summer Judging Results

Wow! 403 project judged in two days at 4-H Summer Judging! This includes 273 of our 4-H project members! We are so proud of all members who worked so hard on these projects (additional photos coming soon!).

If selected as an Ohio State Fair Participant – please confirm your participation by picking up your OSF packet as soon as possible at the Extension Office (831 College Ave, Suite D). If you can not attend OSF, please notify the office so that we can reach out to the alternate! We need to finalize OSF participation by Monday, July 22nd.
Award winners will receive information later this month about 4-H Summerfest (scheduled for Sunday, August 18th at 6:00 p.m. at the Liberty Center).

Teen Opportunity: Ohio 4-H Fashion Board

Considering applying for the Ohio 4-H Fashion Board!!

There is no longer a limit on the number of applications accepted per county. Teens with clothing project experience can apply through the online application posted at https://go.osu.edu/state4hfashionApplications are due Friday, August 9th. Zoom interviews will be scheduled after the application deadline and will happen in late August to early September.

The State 4-H Fashion Board is a group of outstanding 4-H teens from across the state interested in clothing and textiles. They assist with conducting the State Fair 4-H Fashion Revue, 4-H clothing workshop sessions and promoting 4-H clothing projects and programs.

The State 4-H Fashion Board meets face-to-face four to five times during the year. A fall orientation meeting is held to review the roles and responsibilities of members, and develop plans for educational programs throughout the year. During the winter meeting, retiring members are recognized, the previous Ohio State 4-H Fashion Review is evaluated, and plans are finalized for upcoming educational programs. Board members present at the Ohio 4-H Conference in March and a summer meeting is held to prepare for the Ohio State Fair 4-H Fashion Revue.

  • All Summer Judged Projects will be judged on the following days:
    • Monday, July 15, 2024, 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (by appointment).

If you cannot attend judging during this week, you can:

  1. Attend Late Judging on Monday, July 29th from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. by calling 740-653-5419 to schedule an appointment. Participation in Late Judging receives a grade only and is not eligible for county awards or state fair consideration.
  2. Advisor Completion – Talk to your club advisor as they can work with you to review your project for completion only. No grades or awards will be given with this option.
  • Please review the 4-H Member Handbook as you complete your project(s) and prepare for judging.
  • Youth enrolled in the Tractor Maintenance Club or Shooting Sports Club do not need to complete summer judging if they met all completion requirements at the club level for Small Engine/Tractor Projects and or 700 level Shooting Sports disciplines (Shotgun, Rifle, Archery). However, if they wish to qualify for the Ohio State Fair for any of these projects, they must attend summer judging for each project.
  • Youth enrolled in Cake Decorating projects have the option for summer judging completion or county fair completion. If youth wish to qualify for the Ohio State Fair, they must complete summer judging. All Pies, Candies and Pastries are judged at fair only.
  • NEW FOR 2024! Youth enrolled in Gardening and Crop projects must complete summer judging. Project books should be up to date and as complete as possible regardless of timing of harvest.
  • Food and Nutrition Project Members should also review their project book inserts. These were tucked inside your project book if books were purchased at the Fairfield County Extension Office. If needed, you can download these here: Food Project Insert packet.

  • Scheduling is now open!

Scheduling for these dates will open the week of June 24th (watch email/blog posts for scheduling to link). Please be aware that certain projects will be judged on certain days – please review the 2024 4-H Member Handbook to determine your project judging day(s).

If you cannot attend judging during this week, you can:

Youth Opportunity: Sew Ohio is April 27th

Join us at the Ohio 4-H Center for a sewing conference on April 27, 2024 for 4-Hers to help improve their clothing and textile skills. The goal is for the 4-Hers to learn from sewing experts. No matter what your level of sewing please feel free to join us. Nationwide and Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center is located at 2201 Fred Taylor Drive, Columbus, OH 43210.

Teen Opportunity: Apply now for the 2024 Fashion & Nutrition Board

2024 Fashion and Nutrition Board Application (online application)  For youth 13+ with at least 3 years of experience in clothing and/or food & nutrition related projects.  Current or previous Fashion/Nutrition Board members do not need to re-apply. Please send Shannon Carter an email that you would like to be on the 2024 board.

  • All Clothing Projects will be judged on Thursday, July 13, 2023 from 11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (by appointment, see scheduling info below).
    • If you cannot attend this judging day, you can:
      1. Attend Late Judging on Tuesday, July 25th from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. by calling 740-653-5419 to schedule an appointment. Participation in Late Judging receives a grade only, and is not eligible for county awards or state fair consideration.
      2. Advisor Completion – Talk to your club advisor as they can work with you to review your project for completion only. No grades or awards will be given with this option.
      3. There will be no early judging.
    • Scheduling is now open for summer judging!

Sewing and Clothing Project Members – Online Trainings with Master Clothing Educator Volunteers
