Congrats to Fairfield County’s State 4-H Achievement Award Winners!

The 2023 Ohio 4-H Achievement Awards were presented earlier this month at the Nationwide & Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center in Columbus. Local 4-H members received the following awards.

Paisley Alt from Baltimore won the Swine Achievement Award. Paisley, 15, has taken large animal projects that include horses, beef, and hogs. She has received recognition for her participation in skillathons and showmanship, exhibiting her hogs in the county and at state fair. She is an 8-year 4-H member. Paisley is a freshman at Liberty Union High School. She is the daughter of Robert and Amanda Alt.

Kate Johnson from Carroll won the Veterinary Science Achievement Award. Kate, 16, plans to study animal science or zoology to become an exotic animal veterinarian. She has completed rabbit, poultry, and food and nutrition projects, along with veterinary science projects. She is a junior at Bloom Carroll High School and is the daughter of Kristopher and Emma Johnson.

Silas Kohler from from Lancaster was selected represent Ohio 4-H at National 4-H Dairy Conference in Madison, Wisonsin. Silas, 14, is a six-year 4-H member. He enjoys helping on his family farm and is active in a variety of dairy cattle and outdoor projects. He is an eighth grade student at Liberty Union Middle School. He is the son of Jeremy and Hannah Kohler.

Julie Ribo from Lancaster won the Gardening and Horticulture Achievement Award. Julia, 17, has focused on gardening, sewing, and food and nutrition projects during her eight years as a 4-H member. She is president of the Just Kiddin’ 4-H Club and her county Junior Leaders club. She is a junior at Berne Union High School and plans to attend college to obtain her Bachelor of Science in nursing. Julia is the daughter of Michael and Erin Ribo.

Ohio 4-H Achievement Awards are presented annually to individuals for outstanding work in their project area. 28 youth received 2023 honors. The evening was hosted by the Ohio 4-H Foundation.

Ohio 4-H is the youth development program of Ohio State University Extension, the outreach arm of the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences. In 2022, over 130,000 Ohio youth participated in clubs, groups, and special interest programs.
