Jr Fair Entry Clarification including Barrow, Lamb & Beef Performance/Carcass Entries

In the event a youth tagged in multiple animals originally, each market animal that could potentially come to the Fair must be listed as an entry on the form.

Questions have resulted from the Junior Fair entry process and the requirement that any animal tagged in a youth’s name that could potentially come to the Fair must be entered on the 2019 Junior Fair Entry Form, even though all of the animals originally tagged are not likely to actually be exhibited.

An example is in the case of a youth that tagged/weighed 4 market steers or heifers in at the March 9 tag-in. When completing the 2019 Junior Fair Entry Form, if the opportunity to exhibit any of those four head at the Fair is to remain, each must be listed on the entry form with an entry in Class 7, Market Beef Animal. At the same time, if each of those four head are to also remain eligible to come to the Fair for the Beef Performance & Carcass Quality contest (aka: Carcass show) then each animal must also be listed a second time with an entry for Class 10, Carcass Market Beef Animal.

The scenario is the same for the Jr. Swine and Sheep shows. If multiple animals were tagged in by the youth and the decision has yet to  be made regarding which one(s) will come to the Fair to be exhibited, then each must be entered on the Entry Form in their respective “live” classes, and then again if any of those same animals could potentially be included in their respective MQP contests.

This leads to the next question that’s being asked. In each species there are limits to the total numbers of animals that may be exhibited. Those limits apply to the numbers of animals actually arrive at the Fair and are exhibited, and not to the number of entries that may be made at this time prior to the August 30 entry deadline.

In summary with regard to MQP and/or the Beef Performance & Carcass Quality entries, if a youth plans to enter any of those classes, any animal that could potentially be exhibited in those classes must appear on the youth’s 2019 Junior Fair Entry Form.

Any animal that potentially could be exhibited in a class must appear on the youth’s 2019 Junior Fair Entry Form, including MQP and Carcass entries.

  • In the case of beef, this would require entries be made in Book 2, Class 10.
  • For Barrow MQP, this is Book 3, Class 3.
  • In the case of Lamb MQP, this requires entries be made in Book 4, Class 7.
