For 4-H and FFA members raising birds for show or fun, the U.S. Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA-APHIS) “Biosecurity for Birds” program has multiple resources available to help members learn more about biosecurity practices that can protect their flocks from infectious disease like Avian Influenza.
The attached Fair Season Toolkit focuses on educating bird owners about increased disease threats during fair season. It also provides great tips for youth and families to keep on hand to proactively protect their birds and, in turn, help protect all poultry in the U.S. from disease. Please share the information in the toolkit with your members and on any social media you may use to make your county 4-H families aware of practicing good biosecurity. This program is committed to educating bird owners of all ages and with one or 1,000 birds, and USDA-APHIS would appreciate your help in getting this information to 4-H poultry project members.
