The 2016 Ohio 4-H Achievement Awards were presented recently at the Nationwide & Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center in Columbus and Reed Newell was recognized with the Companion Animals Achievement Award which was sponsored by Nationwide Foundation.
Reed Newell, 16, has trained, tested, and certified his chocolate labrador retriever, Bess, to confidently work around medical equipment, crowds, and people challenged with various disabilities. Together, they have provided quality animal assisted therapy on more than 200 occasions with the Ohio 4-H PetPALS program. Reed is the son of Charles and Jennifer Newell of Fairfield County. Reed has aspirations to attend the United States Air Force Academy in 2018.
4-H Achievement Award winners will attend the National 4-H Congress with youth from all over the country in November in Atlanta, Georgia.
The evening was hosted by the Ohio 4-H Foundation.
Ohio 4-H is the youth development program of Ohio State University Extension, with more than 285,000 young Ohioans participating in 4-H clubs, groups and special interest programs.
