ACS Bridge Career/Professional Development Awards

The ACS Bridge Project is pleased to announce an underrepresented minority (URM) student award to defray the registration costs to the any career and professional development event of your choice effective this year only.

The award is open to undergraduate students interested in the chemical sciences and are from groups traditionally underrepresented in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. Namely, underrepresented minorities include African Americans, Hispanic Americans, and Native Americans.

The goal of this professional development award is to increase the number of URM students that gain access to doctoral programs in the chemical sciences. The professional development award will defray the cost of any online workshops, courses, virtual conferences, and/or events that will assist URM students gain access to doctoral programs in the chemical sciences. Each award will be for up to $1000 of eligible expenses based on the review of materials.

Arts and Sciences Career Accelerator Fund

The Career Accelerator Fund provides support for Arts and Sciences students who work in unpaid or minimally paid internships, undergraduate research positions, or experiential learning opportunities. The Spring internship application deadline is December 8, 2020. The Summer internship application deadline is January 29, 2020.

To qualify, you must be a full-time freshman, sophomore, or junior student at OSU and already have an internship secured for Spring or Summer semester.

OSU East Asian Studies Center Fellowships

OSU’s East Asian Studies Center is currently offering several fellowships to undergraduates in STEM departments who have completed at least two years of study in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, or other East Asian languages. These fellowships are offered for intensive summer language study or for an academic year of STEM and language study.

Summer fellowships are expected to offer:

  • $5,000 for tuition and fees
  • a $2,500 stipend

Academic year fellowships are expected to offer:

  • $10,000 for tuition and fees
  • a $5,000 stipend

The East Asian Studies Center is currently accepting applications for Summer 2021 and Academic Year 2021-2022. Applications are due Monday, February 1, 2021, 4:30 p.m. EST, so apply now!

2021 Hertz Graduate Fellowship Program

The online application for the 2021 Hertz Fellowship is now open through October 23, 2020.

The Hertz Fellowship provides financial and lifelong professional support for the nation’s most promising graduate students in science and technology.

NSF GRFP

The NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) helps ensure the vitality of the human resource base of science and engineering in the United States and reinforces its diversity. The program recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students who are pursuing full-time research-based master’s and doctoral degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) or in STEM education.

The GRFP provides three years of support for the graduate education of individuals who have demonstrated their potential for significant research achievements in STEM or STEM education. Fellows benefit from a three-year annual stipend of $34,000 along with a $12,000 cost of education allowance for tuition and fees (paid to the institution), opportunities for international research and professional development, and the freedom to conduct their own research at any accredited U.S. institution of graduate education they choose.

DoD NDSEG Fellowships

The DoD National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellowship Program is a competitive fellowship that is awarded to U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, and U.S. dual citizens who intend to pursue a Doctoral degree aligned to the DoD services Broad Agency Announcements (BAAs) in research and development at a U.S. institution of their choice.

The NDSEG Fellowship lasts for 3 years and pays for full tuition and all mandatory fees; a monthly stipend ($38,400 annually); a $5,000 travel budget over the Fellow’s tenure for professional development; and up to $1,200 a year in health insurance.

Eligible applicants are required to be enrolled in their final year of undergraduate studies through the second year of a traditional PhD program.

Smart Campus Challenge

Think you’ve got the fix for a campus sustainability problem? Pitch your next big idea and sell Ohio State Energy Partners (OSEP) on sustainability for a chance to get your dream project funded — all while positively impacting campus.

Each year, OSEP provides philanthropic contributions to a variety of organizations, projects and programs. For the 2018-2019 academic year, OSEP will support campus sustainability innovation by sponsoring a venture capitalist-style sustainability competition for students.

Teams of 3 to 5 students from every Ohio State University campus will have the opportunity to propose projects that support the university’s sustainability goals.

The first-place winning team will have the opportunity to travel to ENGIE’s Innovation Week in June — paid for by ENGIE. In 2014, ENGIE launched an innovation initiative to connect innovators and their solutions with the stakeholders who need them most. The winning team will have the opportunity to attend the Innovation Week Trophy award ceremony in Paris, France, and see first-hand the world’s next innovative energy solutions. Student Grant Competition

The Public Narrative Collaborative Global Arts & Humanities Discovery Theme is offering small grants up to $500 for work dealing with public narrative for undergraduate and graduate students graduating in spring and summer of 2019. 
 
The Public Narrative Collaborative supports broad definitions of public and of narrative. Its work is grounded in the cultural pervasiveness and widely-acknowledged power of stories and storytelling. Once thought to reside safely in the domains of literature, history, and folklore, narrative is now recognized as significant in just about every sphere of human activity: in politics, medicine, religion, education, law, business, sports, the art world, and on and on.  In addition, narratives appear in a range of media: print, radio, film, television, comics, theater, the digital, painting, sculpture, and curated art exhibitions.  Furthermore, narratives have countless purposes, some of which frequently overlap: reporting, explaining, interpreting, evaluating, entertaining, socializing, persuading, and more.  Narrative, in short, is a way of knowing and of doing.
 
PNC would like to make clear that “telling” in this context is not limited to verbal or written language, in fact proposals working in media including but not limited to visual art, sound, performance, moving image will be welcomed.

  • A brief general description (250 words maximum) of your project.
  • A brief description of how the interests of PNC align with the form, theme, or subject of your project.
  • Amount requested up to $500.
  • General budget (how the money will be spent).

  • Anticipated graduation date and degree. Applicant must be anticipating graduating in Spring or Summer 2019.
