Livestock Quality Assurance Session – #3

April 11 from 7-9 pm at Frontier High School is the third QA session.

Members planning to take market livestock and lactating dairy cattle/goats projects and a parent/guardian must attend a Livestock Quality Assurance training in order to participate in Jr Fair events, shows and sales at the fairs. Members may attend a QA session in any Ohio county, the member must still be accompanied by an adult.

Test-out Option – Youth ages 12-14 and 15-18 may participate.  The test will be offered after each QA session.

Food Preservation Zooms Starting April 11

Warmer weather is a good indicator that it is time to start preserving food. Beginning in April, Ohio State University Extension’s Food Preservation Team is hosting 5 FREE webinars on what you need to know about food preservation! These five (5) webinars will take place from 12:00pm-12:30pm every other Tuesday beginning April 11, 2023, and ending on June 6, 2023. Topics covered include the Top 5 Considerations for Preserving Food, Canning: Water Bath, Canning: Pressure, Freezing, Drying and Freeze Drying. There is no cost for participants to attend. SCHOLARSHIP- Trade Work

SCHOLARSHIP

The Washington County Fairgrounds is offering 2 scholarships to individuals who qualify from the following guidelines. The winner of the scholarship will be recognized at the beginning of the 2023 Washington County Fair Livestock Sale.

Guidelines:
1. Applicant must be a 2023 graduating high school senior actively enrolled in a Washington County 4-H Club, FFA, Boy or Girl Scout Club for at least 4 years.
2. High School grade point average of at least 2.0 average.
3. Two Scholarships will be awarded:
– One scholarship for a graduate pursing College after gradation
– One scholarship for a graduate pursing Trade Work after graduation
*Applicants can only apply for one scholarship*
4. College recipient will receive the scholarship money after the first college semester showing a 2.0 average or above.
-or-
Trade Work recipient will receive reimbursement for expenses incurred for further training or
technical education. Reimbursable expenses include: books, tools, supplies, tuition, school
fees, continuing education feed, room and board, etc
Funds must be claimed by February of the following year.
5. Applications are due by May 31, 2023
6. This scholarship will be a minimum of $500
7. A jury selected by the Sr Fair Board will review the candidates and select the winners
