The 4th H Club Challenge

We pledge our “health to better living” but do we actually practice it? The 4th H Club Challenge encourages Ohio 4-H Clubs to learn, practice, and advocate for healthy choices and behaviors at 4-H club meetings. Practicing healthy habits and choices now has lifelong effects on the health of youth.

Each club that completes the challenge before the deadline will enter into the $100 voucher drawing for their region to use for their club (project books, educational tools, etc.)! Each region will have a winner. The first 25 clubs that complete the registration and pre-survey will get an extra entry. How does it work? Apply healthy practices per meeting at 6 or more 4-H clubs/meetings from April – December 2023.

  1. Register and complete pre-survey.
  2. Record the dates and activities in the 4th H tracker link. (the tracker link will be provided after registering)
  3. Share a picture of your club doing a healthy practice on social media. Be sure to include the official hashtag #Ohio4thHClubChallenge.
  4. Submit all activities to the tracker link by December 31st, 2023.

More information can be found at https://go.osu.edu/4thHClubChallenge. Attached is a graphic both in PNG and PDF file for your newsletters, social media, etc.

Washington County 4-H Endowment Dinner a Success

The Washington County 4-H Endowment Dinner was held on April 1, 2023 at the Washington County Fair Grounds.  This year’s dinner featured a steak or chicken dinner along with Live and Silent auctions and a Grab bag station.  The Endowment committee along with 4-H volunteers served over 390 meals and raised over $30,000 to support the 4-H program in the county.  The funds raised will be used to help with camp and trip scholarships, as well as other 4-H events held throughout the year that reaches the youth of Washington County.  The committee is excited with the event and reached their goals for the dinner this year.  A special thanks goes out to all the businesses, families, 4-H Clubs and individuals who supported the event this year.  The committee is already planning for 2024.  If you would like to help and join the committee to plan the event in 2024 please call the Extension Office at 740-376-7431.

Attention Hog Exhibitors

Here is a note from Chris Campbell with the Waterford Community Fair:

We have 232 hogs entered this year.

We are in the process of building more pens. If siblings are taking hogs, more than likely you will be in the same pen. Hopefully, I will have enough room for everyone. There will not be any open pens this year to put a spare hog in, they will have to stay on your trailer if you plan on bringing them. With the increase in the number of hogs, everything is going to take longer so please be patient. If you are willing to help out it would be greatly appreciated.
