Two Great Reasons to Apply for 4-H Trip Awards

My name is Bijou Burgardt and I attended 4-H State Leadership Camp this year which ended up being one of the best camps I’ve ever been to. I got to try a lot of new experiences. My favorite new experience was zip lining. At first I was worried and kinda scared of doing it, but in the end I ended up doing it twice! We also got to rock climb, go on a high ropes course, shoot rifles and do archery. I had so much fun and I am so thankful that I was given the opportunity to attend. I hope to encourage others to attend as well.

Hi, my name is Michael Gardner, I am 13 and going into the 8th grade. My enjoyed my trip to Space Adventure Camp and I had the best time. It started a little rocky and I wanted to go home the first night because this was my first time away at a camp. I was able to get through that first night and had lots of fun after that. If you feel scared and want to leave, don’t because you will miss out on a lot of fun and a really great experience. While I was there, I met so many great people. The campers were awesome to hang out with and the counselors and staff were very kind. We built our own hot air balloon, model rocket and bottle rocket, then got to launch them all. We also went to the planetarium, played flight simulator and went swimming. My favorite part was eating pizza during lunch and near 11 pm which was lights out. I would recommend Space Adventure Camp for anyone interested in science and interested in meeting some great people.

Gerken Announces Retirement from OSU Extension

Dear Friends,

It is with mixed emotions that I am announcing my retirement effective September 27, 2019.

I have had the pleasure of a career for 33+ years at Ohio State University Extension, in Economic Development, Community Development, and the last few years in the 4-H Program.  The 4-H program would not be as successful as it is without the volunteers that so graciously give their time and all who participate and give their endless support to the program to help grow our children to be successful adults.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the support that I have been given from all of you, including 4-H’ers.  You have all helped me to grow both personally and professionally.

The years here have given me many great memories to treasure, and it is the people that have made the years here so enjoyable. I cannot express just how much I will miss everyone.

As I move on to the next chapter in my life, I wish only the best for everyone and the continued success of the Washington County 4-H Program.

Jill Gerken

The OSU Extension Staff wish Jill all the best as she retires. Her helpful voice on the phone and cheerful greeting at front office will be missed. If you would like to send a card or best wishes note to Jill, please address it to Jill’s attention and mail it to the Extension Office. OSU Extension, 202 Davis Ave, Marietta, OH 45750

Two More Reasons to Apply for 4-H Trip Awards

Staying at Marietta College for Space Camp is a memory I will always treasure! We got to go into the planetarium and got to learn in some of the college classrooms. We got to see what it was like to drive a plane and got to see Jupiter with our own eyes. Staying in the dorms and seeing what it was like to go to Marietta College was amazing. Learning and having fun at the same time is exactly what Space Camp is all about! I made so many new friends and saw some of my friends from school. This is an experience that will last a lifetime!

Thank you for the scholarship to go to Senior Shooting Sports Camp. I had so much fun there. I love meeting new friends everywhere I go. In the evenings we participated in team building activities, shot different types of guns, and lethal impact. My favorite part was shooting a 50 caliber rifle. It’s the largest rifle a civilian can own. The boom was really loud, they even let me keep the casing. The rifle was equipped with large springs to absorb the recoil. The stand was part of the rifle as it is too heavy to stand and hold. That was the most exciting part of the camp. I highly recommend this camp to others. There is never a dull moment, we are busy from sunrise until sunset has passed. Thank you for the opportunity to attend shooting sports camp.
