4-H Camp Drop-off and Pick-up Times

Just a reminder that 4-H Camp will be in full swing during July and here are the drop-off and pick-up times. Please do not arrive early for these sessions:

  • Junior Camp Drop-off – Monday, July 8 from 9:30 – 10:30 AM
  • Junior Camp Closing Program and Pick-up – Friday, July 12 at 1:30 PM
  • Senior Camp Drop-off – Monday, July 22 from 9:30-10:30 AM
  • Senior Camp Closing Program and Pick-up – Friday, July 26 at 1:30 PM

New Livestock Sale Buyer Names & Addresses Needed by July 12

Remember that crazy skit the 4-H Staff did at Livestock Quality Assurance this spring? Well, it is time to turn in new livestock sale buyer names for the Waterford, County Fair and Barlow Sales! Please bring the name, mailing address and email of NEW BUYERS to the Extension Office by July 12 to have a new buyer’s packet mailed directly to them.

Previous Year Buyers and those registered at a sale will automatically receive a Buyer’s Packet in the mail.

Just a recap on contacting buyers:

  • Personal invitations with buyers are best
    • Face to Face Visits
    • Letters
    • Cards
    • Follow-up Phone Call
  • Make a list of potential buyers your family has contact with or does business with
    • Stores & businesses your family patronizes
    • Family members/friends of the family
    • Find out who has bought in the past
    • Invite at least TWO new buyers
  • Put together an invitation to the sale
    • Provide information about you, your parents and your project
    • Ask them to “support the sale” not to “purchase your animal”
    • Include pictures if possible

Pen Reservations For Fairs Due Soon

  • Waterford Fair – Your 4-H Enrollment form serves as pen reservation BUT all pen requests MUST in by July 1st to Chris Campbell – 984-4646.
  • Washington County Fair – All forms (fancy poultry, market poultry, rabbits, sheep, goats, beef, dairy) are due August 3 for Jr Fair exhibitors. Open class exhibitors due August 1)
  • Barlow Fair – All forms (poultry, waterfowl, feeder calf, rabbit, sheep, goat, cattle, horse) are due August 30.

Pen reservations are mailed directly to Senior Fairboard Offices (address is on forms). Pen reservation forms available in the Jr Fair Guide, on the web at https://washington.osu.edu/program-areas/4-h-youth-development/washington-county-4-h-forms and the OSU Extension office.

 

4-H’s Got Talent Show – July 27 at State Fair

Location: Main Stage of the Lausche Youth Center at the Ohio State Fair

Ohio State Fair Skillathons

4-H and FFA youth can show what they know about 9 different animal species through 10 skillathon events during the Ohio State Fair (see the schedule below). Skillathons are free, registration is the day of the event (an adult must accompany the youth), youth can come anytime between the hours listed, and youth do not have to be a state fair exhibitor or be enrolled in an animal project in order to complete. Youth vying for the Outstanding Market Exhibitor (OME) award for goat, sheep, poultry, swine, and beef must participate in the Skillathon, showmanship, and live animal show in order to qualify. Educational Horse Equine Session Reminder

June 25, 2019 is the second Educational Equine session offered to 4-H Horse members at 6:30PM.  Each member exhibiting horses at County Fair are required to attend one session.  The June 25th session will feature trail obstacle courses, rider etiquette and ground roping.  Ground Roping session will be held by Troy Smith.  Plan to bring your own ropes.  The Horse Safety Video will be shown for members still needing that training.

PAS Show At Hartford Fairgrounds

Are you in need of a PAS qualifying show, please know that Licking County will continue to accept  members for this Saturday’s show at the Hartford Fairgrounds in Croton! We’re thankful to be able to show indoor or outdoor, depending upon the weather, and will happily accommodate those who are unable to compete at their home shows due to flooding and such…

Helpers Needed to Move Bunk Beds

Looking for helpers to load 40 bunk beds at Marietta College (McCoy Hall, 215 Fifth St) and take them to Camp Hervida on Monday, June 24, 9:00 AM. We have a box trailer….just need some helpers! Just show up if interested in helping.

Thank you Card with / without the use of computer graphics or scrapbooking– Junior (8-10)

  • Entries in J-6 and J-7 should be an original ”thank you” card with artwork on the cover. An inside message is not required, but may be included at the discretion of the designer. Inside messages will not be judged. Use of the 4-H emblem is strongly encouraged, but not required.
  • Card should be on 8 ½ x 11 white cardstock, folded once.
  • Art and message must be the original work of the member.
  • Member may use any medium, including crayon, chalk, pen and ink, pencil, markers, etc. Designs must be hand-lettered and drawn or cut by hand.
  • When using 4-H emblem that is downloaded, it must go into the graphics division.
  • Artwork or lettering created with the aid of scrapbooking tools or computers is permitted provided the design is the original work of the member. No commercially designed clipart may be used.
  • These designs must be able to be duplicated.
  • Member’s name, age, and county should be neatly printed in the lower right-hand corner of the back of the card.
  • Evaluation will be based on the quality, creativity, and originality of the design.

Holiday Card with / without the use of computer graphics or scrapbooking – Intermediate (11-13)

  • Entries should be an original “Holiday” card with artwork on the cover. An inside message is not required but may be included at the discretion of the designer. Inside messages will not be judged. Use of the 4-H emblem is strongly encouraged, but not required.
  • Card should be on 8 ½ x 11 white cardstock, folded in half. (Only one fold)
  • Art and message· must be the original work of the member.
  • Member may use any medium, including crayon, chalk, pen and ink, pencil, markers, etc. Designs must be hand-lettered and drawn or cut by hand.
  • When using 4-H logo that is downloaded it must go into the graphics division.

4-H Infomercial Promoting 4-H – Senior (14 and up)

  • This is a video “short” that promotes the 4-H program
  • This must be a fully automated, stand-alone video presentation with sound and narration as appropriate. Think “YouTube.” The video should include recorded visual, sound, and narration to convey a message.
  • The video should be the original work of the member making the entry.
  • Images in the video should be appropriate for promoting 4-H. Use pictures of youth who are of 4-H age; when possible, show the diversity of membership, projects, and activities; show youth exercising appropriate safety practices (i.e. wearing helmets on horseback).
  • The video should be 2-4 minutes long. Penalties may be assessed for videos less than 2 minutes or longer than 4 minutes.
  • Videos must be submitted on a DVD and must play using QuickTime Player or Windows Media Player.
  • The member’s name, age, and county must be neatly written on the DVD, along with the presentation title.
  • Evaluation will be based on the quality and originality of the message, which should persuade the viewer to action, as well as on the creative and professional use of technology.
  • By submitting an entry, you agree to allow counties and or the State 4-H office to use the promotional video to promote 4-H throughout Ohio.
