4-H Shooting Sports Fall Session

The fall session will be in October and November at Hervida 4-H Camp. Youth ages 9-19 are welcome to join in the fun while learning the basic skills of a shooting sports discipline.

Choose from archery or shotgun. All shooting equipment and supplies are provided.

Advance registration opens Friday, September 2 with the first meeting on October 9.

Registrations are limited. Youth will choose one discipline and participate in that discipline for the whole session. Please enter the child’s “name”. The guardian’s “email” and “phone” are preferred. More information will be emailed to you by October 1 in preparation for the first meeting.

Youth must be 9 years old as of January 1, 2022 and not older than 19 by December 31, 2022.

Shotguns have a recoil and weigh between 6-8 lbs. We use both low recoil shotguns and ammunition. But recoil is still present. Participants are expected to be able stand, hold and swing the shotgun by themselves. We will be using 20 gauge shotguns. Please contact Brian Baker for further details 740-350-8155

Signing up for October 9 session will automatically register the youth for all Sunday meetings of the fall session (1-3pm Kick-off/Mandatory Safety Meeting on Oct 9, classes on October 16 & 30, November 6 & 13.

Bull’s Eye Fundraiser – April 12

4-H Shooting Sports Fundraiser:  Bull’s-Eye 4-H Club will host Marietta Applebee’s “Together We Care” fundraiser on Tuesday, April 12. The Club will receive 50% of what is spent on a special menu of five Applebee’s favorites from 11am to 11pm. No flyer or receipt required; just ask for and order from the special menu. Fundraiser applies to both dine-in and take-out orders (740-374-5390). Thank you for your support to help purchase supplies, equipment, and recognition items for the 4-H shooting sports program!

Bulls Eye Shooting Sports – Needing Instructors

Washington County Bull’s Eye 4-H Club offers a series of sessions in the Spring and Fall at 4-H Camp Hervida. There are nine disciplines offered in Ohio that adults can become certified in to then be offered at the local level:

  • Archery
  • Hunting & Wildlife
  • Living History
  • Muzzleloader
  • Pistol
  • Reloading
  • Rifle
  • Shotgun
  • Western Heritage

Some of these disciplines are not offered in Washington County due the lack of certified volunteers to teach the sessions at Bull’s Eye club meetings.

Do you have an interest in Shooting Sports and teaching young people about safety, self-discipline, goal-setting while teaching a lifetime sport?

Consider joining the Bull’s Eye 4-H Club as an instructor. Here are the steps:

  1. Become a local 4-H volunteer by contacting the OSU Extension Office 740-376-7431
  2. Talk to our Bull’s Eye Coordinators Teresa Stone or Misty Mason about getting plugged in to the club.
  3. Attend a state training to become certified. We will pay for your registration fee!
    • Feb 25-27 at Camp Ohio, registration due Feb 13
    • April 8-10 at Canter’s Cave
    • October 8-10 at Canter’s Cave

Winter Shooting Sports Workshop

Interesting in becoming an adult 4-H Shooting Sports Instructor?

The registration for the Winter Shooting Sports Workshop February 25-27, 2022 at 4-H Camp Ohio in Licking County is open until February 13.

The registration process is via online registration. Participants will be able to pay via credit card, or by mailing a check.

    • If mailing a check, please make sure to follow the instructions and include a list of participants. We know sometimes a 4-H Committee/Club etc. will pay for multiple people and so we need to be able to track who has paid.

All volunteers are required complete the 4-H volunteer application and selection process and complete the National Shooting Sports online eModules prior to attending the workshop. Contact OSU Extension for more details!

4-H SHOOTING SPORTS 2021 FALL SESSION

Have fun while safely learning the basic skills of a shooting sports discipline!

Advance Registration:Youth must be 9 years old as of January 1, 2022 and not older than 19 by December 31, 2022.

Signup Genius, an online software tool, is used for registration. The link to access the sign up will be made public at 10am, Thursday, September 9 on the county’s 4‑H Blog at https://u.osu.edu/washington4h/

 Health & Safety:

At the present time, masks are not required. Masks are encouraged for those not fully vaccinated. Family members/drivers are welcome at ranges and club meetings. Equipment will be shared except for eye/ear protection.

Disciplines:

        Archery:  all skill levels shoot together, maximum of 24 in each class

Air Pistol:  all skill levels shoot together, max of 14 in each class, must be 10 years old as of January 1, 2022

Beginning Rifle:  taking rifle for first or second time, maximum of 14 in class

Advanced Rifle:  taking rifle for second or more time, maximum of 14 in class

        Participate in one or two disciplines. See next page for scheduled times.

Meeting Dates & Location: 

Sundays on October 3, 10, 17, 31, November 7, 14. See next page for scheduled times.

Dress for the weather! You will be outside; no heated buildings; outside toilet.

Cost:

$5 with completed enrollment, health, and release forms due by October 10.
