Mickey Leland Energy Fellowship (MLEF) Program

The Mickey Leland Energy Fellowship Program (MLEF) offers the opportunity for students to develop research skills with the Department of Energy’s Office of Fossil Energy. This program spans over 10 weeks during the summer, and focuses on the success of women and minorities in the STEM fields. (However, all eligible candidates are encouraged to apply!)

The program has many different locations for placement, including:

  • Department of Energy Headquarters, Washington, D.C. and Germantown, MD
  • National Energy Technology Laboratory, Pittsburgh, PA; Morgantown, WV; Albany, OR
  • Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Oak Ridge, TN
  • Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Richland, WA
  • Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Berkeley, CA

To apply, students must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • U.S. Citizen
  • GPA of at least 3.0
  • Available for full 10-week program
  • Enrolled full-time as a degree-seeking student in STEM program (BA, MA, or PhD)
  • At least college sophomore standing
