Marine Physical Laboratory (MPL) Summer Internship Program

The Marine Physical Laboratory (MPL) at the world renowned Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO), UC San Diego, in La Jolla, California is currently seeking applicants for its summer internship program.

The MPL Summer Internship program is a paid, ten-week research program where students complete their own individual research project under the mentorship of some of the most notable scientists in the world. In addition to their research, students will attend weekly seminars, participate in hands-on activities, and more. Interns receive a $18.00/hour salary and a $6,000 taxable stipend to offset costs of housing, meals, transportation, etc. issued upon arrival.

  • Acoustics and Infrasound
  • Applied Ocean Sciences
  • Ocean-Atmosphere Interactions
  • Ocean Instrumentation and Technology
  • Internal Waves and Ocean Mixing
  • Upper Ocean and Submesoscale Processes
  • and more

Eligibility:

  • Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents currently enrolled in their first, second, or third year of undergraduate status. Senior year undergrads are not eligible.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age as of the internship start date.
  • Applicants must be available to start in June 2025 and work 40 hours/week for entire duration of the internship (10 consecutive weeks).

Applications are due by Friday, January 24, 2025 at 4 PM Pacific time. Decisions will be emailed by the end of April.

Summer REU Program in Marine Science

Applications are open for the Marine Sciences Summer Program at the University of Delaware. This program is for undergraduate students in STEM. Under the guidance of a faculty mentor, interns work in a research-intensive atmosphere on a topic in chemical, physical, or biological oceanography or marine biology/geology/ biogeochemistry. Interns will also have the chance to present reports at the end of the program.

This summer program is 10 weeks and will run from Monday, June 6 to Friday, August 12.

This program includes

  • Opportunities to conduct guided research on marine science, weekly research seminars, professional development presentations, and field trips to nearby coastal marine systems
  • A free housing complex for interns with a washer, dryer, AC, and Wi-Fi
  • $6, 500 stipend and travel assistance

Marine Physical Laboratory Summer Internship

The Scripps Institution of Oceanography has opened applications for their Summer ’22 Internships. This is a 10 week research program in the fields of marine science and technology at Scripp’s Marine Physical Laboratory. This is a paid internship for undergraduate students currently majoring in physics, applied mathematics, chemistry, biology, engineering, geology and related majors. There are a variety of research areas offered such as:

  • Physical Oceanography
  • Population and Community Ecology
  • Acoustics and Infrasound
  • Ocean-Atmosphere interactions

This program will be based in La Jolla, California, beginning in June of 2022.

Scripps Institution of Oceanography Internship

The Marine Physical Laboratory at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego, in La Jolla, California is offering a ten-week summer internship opportunity. This internship program is a great opportunity for inquisitive and motivated undergraduate students with exceptional aptitude for quantitative science to work with some of the most notable scientists in the world while earning $14/hour. In addition to their research, students will attend weekly seminars given by members of their faculty and scientific staff.

Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents currently enrolled in their first, second, or third year of undergraduate status. Senior year undergrads, former MPL interns and high school applicants are not eligible.
