Ractopamine (Paylean) Banned at Waterford Community Fair

Post from Waterford Community Fair Facebook Page:

  • At the February 20, 2020 the Waterford Fair Board voted to ban the use of Ractopamine (Paylean) in all market hog projects at the 2020 Waterford Community Fair from birth to time of slaughter. This decision was made due to the fact that the packers do not want hogs that have been fed Ractopamine (Paylean). The packers will be testing for Ractopamine (Paylean) and rejecting the hogs that have been fed or exposed to Ractopamine (Paylean).
  • All market hog exhibitors, and their parent/guardian, will be required to sign an affidavit stating that their hog has never been fed or exposed to Ractopamine (Paylean). Affidavits will be turned in at weigh in with your DUNF forms. To make sure that your hog remains Ractapomine (Paylean), you need to clean your feeders and waters, trailer or truck used for transportation, and your barn (make sure you remove all bedding from the previous year). The OSU Extension has information on how to exhibit a Ractopamine (Paylean) free swine project.

Additional Notes from OSU Extension:

Exhibitors may require the producer to sign a Producer Affidavit verifying the hog being purchased is Ractopamine free. Sample Producer Affidavit: Never Fed Beta Agonist Producer Affidavit – Sale to Exhibitor
