Youth Dairy Judging Clinic

Are you looking for a warm place to practice Dairy judging before the Spring Dairy Expo contest? Come to the 2023 Ohio 4-H Dairy Judging Clinic on Saturday, March 11, 2023. The event will take place from 10:00am through 1:00pm at the OSU Animal Sciences Building (2029 Fyffe Court, Columbus, OH 43210).

  • 9:45-10:00am: Sign in
  • 10:00- 10:30am: Parts of the cow and team reasons games with Buckeye Bessy
  • 10:30- 11:00am: Hands on live cow comparison and team reasons
  • 11:00 -12:00am: 2 Live Jersey cow classes with questions and discussion
  • 12:00 -1:00pm: Try your hand – reasons practice for those that would like to give a set of reasons

PLEASE Note:  There will be no Registration fee for this clinic but there will also be no lunch.  Please plan to eat before or after the clinic on your own this year.  There is a parking fee to park in the Animal Science parking lot, please be sure you find the parking meter at the northwest corner of the lot and enter through the back door on the northwest side of the building.

Ohio 4-H Virtual Livestock Judging Contest

How would you like to participate in a judging contest and gain judging experience from your phone? The contest began on Thursday via Facebook. Each week a class will be posted on the Ohio State – 4-H Animal Sciences Facebook page with a link to fill out your information and placing selections. It is open to participants of all ages and states. The species will include cattle, swine, sheep, and goats.

The rules are simple:

  • It is 100% FREE
  • Participate each week before results are posted
  • The contest is open to all ages
  • Results will be posted at the beginning of each week
  • The contest will run for 6 weeks

Division champions will be selected and are divided as follows:

  • Novice (0-7)
  • Junior (8-11)
  • Intermediate (12-14)
  • Senior (15-18)
  • Advanced (19+)

REMINDER: Ohio 4-H Conference

The 2023 Ohio 4-H Conference will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio. The conference is a great opportunity to gather new ideas, get updates about 4-H, meet/connect with new people, and celebrate our volunteers and teens. The conference includes break out sessions for both teens and adult volunteers, as well as a luncheon, trade show, and silent auction. You can find a list of sessions, registration form, vendor application, and silent auction donation form HERE. Cost to attend is $40 per person.

Please return the registration form along with payment to the Licking County Extension Office by February 9, 2023 so that we can get you registered. Check should be made payable to: Licking County 4-H Committee.

 

Licking County 4-H Band Seeking New Members!

Interested in joining the Licking County 4-H Band? Check out the information below!

Who: Anyone between the ages of 11 and 19.

When: Practices will be held on WEDNESDAYS in March, April and May | 6:00-8:30pm (Registration nights will be March 1st, 8th, and 15th)

Where: Wilson Middle School in Newark

What to Bring: Folding Music Stand, Instrument, $5 for registration, and a friend!

Additional activities and concerts will take place throughout the summer.

2023 Farmers Share Breakfast

The Licking County Farm Bureau will host their annual Farmers Share Breakfast on Saturday, February 18, 2023 from 8:00-10:00am at CTEC in Newark. The proceeds from this event will support campers attending Licking County 4-H’s Summer Residential Camp at 4-H Camp Ohio in June.

The Licking County Farm Bureau will be partnering with Utica Tractor 4-H Club and Simmons Farm Toys to host a Farm Toy Display Contest at the Farmer’s Share Breakfast! 2023 Club Officer Training Workshop and New Family Orientation

Save the date! We are happy to bring back the Club Officer Training Workshop and New Family Orientation in 2023! This event is a great opportunity for members who will be serving in an officer role to learn more about their officer role and gain hands-on experience and helpful resources so they will be better prepared to serve as an officer in 2023. Members who maybe aren’t serving in an officer role yet, but would like to learn more are also encouraged to participate!

We will also have a session for New Family Orientation to help new families learn more about what 4-H has to offer and to have their questions answered.

If you are interested in starting a new club, please turn your advisor application in as soon as possible so we can get that process started as well.

East Ohio Women in Agriculture Conference

The eighth annual East Ohio Women in Agriculture Conference will be March 24th at the Shisler Event Center in Wooster.  Over the years hundreds of women from across Ohio have attended.  This year’s program will feature 15 break-out sessions in 4 tracks presented by OSU Extension educators, farmers, and partner agencies including: Business & Finance, Plants & Animals, Home & Family and Special Interest. Farm and Dairy editor-in-chief, Rebecca Miller will deliver this year’s keynote presentation, Clinging to context in a noisy world: don’t lose sight of your “why.”
