Lisa’s Going Global!

Safe travels to Lisa McCutcheon as she travels to Guam to represent 4-H and assist with training at the University of Guam. Last year, Lisa and Adrienne hosted a delegation from the University of Guam for a day. They discussed project curriculum, judging, camps, and many other things. Much of the 4-H programming in Guam is currently set up as after-school and school enrichment programing. They are looking to expand that programing into more traditional forms of 4-H. Lisa and Joy Sharp (Pickaway County 4-H Educator) will be spending the upcoming week in Guam to assist with this transition. Please realize that Lisa may be unable to check/respond to email while she is away. Should you have questions, please call the Licking County Extension Office at 740.670.5315 and we will assist you as best we can. Lisa has promised us that she will be back in time for the next Quality Assurance and Horse Safety & Ethics training on May 6th.

Laura Neese – Sled Dog Musher Presentation

May 3, 2019

7:00pm

Licking Valley High School Auditorium

Join Newark native, Laura Neese and her phenomenal lead dog Maple as she shares her adventures and challenges of training and racing her team of Alaskan Huskies. At 22 years of age, Laura has already completed three 1,000 mile sled dog races. In February 2018, Laura raced in the 1,000 mile Yukon Quest International Sled Dog Race completing it in 3rd place with her best finish yet. She was the only woman to finish the challenging race that year, where mushers some days endured temperatures of 50 degrees below zero. In 2019, Laura’s race season was turned upside down when supplies to be sent along the 1,000 mile trail were spoiled before her race began. Laura will share her experiences with training and racing sled dogs and how having a positive outlook helps not only on the trail but when facing unseen challenges that happen in life, persevering when plans need to be changed, and moving ahead with enthusiasm and optimism. Come discover some of the great sled dog races that are offered in the lower 48 states as Laura shares about preparing for, traveling to, and racing in a few of these great events during the 2019 winter.

4-H Night at the Cincinnati Reds vs. Houston Astros Game!

I am excited to share with you an opportunity for 4-H families and friends to purchase discounted tickets for a Cincinnati Reds game AND for The Licking County 4-H Program to earn some extra funds at the same time!

Join us on Monday, June 17, as the Cincinnati Reds take on the Houston Astros.  The game starts at 7:10 p.m. at Great American Ball Park.  A group discount is being offered to 4-H: view level (upper level) tickets are $10 and field level tickets are $20.  In addition to discounted ticket rates, counties will earn $4 from each ticket purchased using the link below and have their county designated.  Ticket sales are not limited to 4-H members/volunteers; share the link as much as you would like!

https://groupmatics.events/event/4-Hnight2

Clermont County hosted an event with the Reds last year and had such a great time, they wanted to offer this opportunity to all counties.  The more tickets we sell the more “4-H perks” we get such as delivering the game ball, kid zone activities or an on-field ceremony.

How do I earn money for my program?

All you have to do is share the link with 4-H members, volunteers, alumni, even your family and friends!  The discounted tickets are available to anyone!  Each ticket sold from your county (county must be listed as “county in which I participate in 4-H) will earn your program $4!

How do I purchase tickets?

Online!  Click the link below to purchase your tickets.  You can even see which of your friends are going to the game and where they’re sitting!

4-H Project Workshop: Intro to Food & Clothing Projects

Saturday, May 4, 2019 from 10:00am to noon at the Licking County Extension Office.

The Licking County 4-H Food & Fashion Board will be hosting workshops designed for beginning project members who are taking food or clothing projects for the first or second time. Both sessions will run simultaneously, so member will need to pick one workshop or the other. They will not be able to attend both. A parent or the project helper is required to attend to learn along with the 4-H member. Members should bring their project book with them, but are also encouraged to bring other items they may wish to get help with (maybe they have a sewing machine they need to know how to thread or have questions on a recipe for their foods project). Please RSVP by Monday, April 29th at 740.670.5315. More info can be found here.

Officer Training School and Family Orientation – NEW LOCATION

The 2019 Officer Training School and Family Orientation will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at 6:30pm at HEATH HIGH SCHOOL (new location this year!). This is a great opportunity for youth who have been selected as an officer to learn more about their office as well as for those who are interested in learning more about an office they wish to run for in the future. The Family Orientation is will allow you to hear about important information all families should know about the Licking County 4-H Program and also offers the opportunity for you to ask questions about the program, projects or events. We hope to see you there!

REMINDER: 2019 Mini Camp Registrations Due!

Friday, April 26th is the deadline to register for Licking County 4-H Mini Camp. Mini Camp will be held May 10-11 at 4-H Camp Ohio. This is an ideal camp for young campers who are in their last year of Cloverbuds or in their first or second year as a project member. This one night camp gives your youth a “taste” of the camping experience without the commitment of a five day camp. We have found that youth who are apprehensive about attending camp and come to mini camp, enjoy summer camp more and are less likely to feel homesick because they are already familiar with the facilities, rules and routines. Registration information can be found here.
