Senior Citizens Needed for 4-H GrandPals Program

The Licking County 4-H GrandPals program is beginning its 15th year. The GrandPals program is a partnership with Cherry Valley Elementary in which fourth grade students are partnered with a senior citizen pen pal (GrandPal) from the community. Students and GrandPals will each write four letters back and forth, with the final letter being given in person at our end-of-the-year celebration. This program helps the students learn writing skills in real-world applications. We are in need of additional GrandPals to ensure that each student has someone to write to. If you or someone you know would be interested in becoming a GrandPal, please contact Adrienne at anderson.1410@osu.edu or 740.670.5315. If you are interested, please let Adrienne know by December 6th.

4-H CARTEENS Facilitators Needed

The Licking County 4-H CARTEENS program is looking for teen facilitators. The 4-H CARTEENS is a teen leadership program in partnership with the Licking County Juvenile Courts to teach safe driving practices to minors who have made traffic violations. The program is held once a month, typically on the first Thursday of the month, from 5:00-7:00pm. Facilitators help set up the materials, check in participants, introduce speakers, and work with groups with hands-on activities.

Youth should be at least 15-years-old to become a facilitator. CARTEENS can help teens to focus on learning leadership and public speaking skills. It is a great opportunity for those teens who may want to be involved in a 4-H Teen Leader activity, but may not have the time to commit to some of the more time intensive opportunities. Hours working with CARTEENS are eligible for school volunteer requirements and facilitators are eligible to apply for a scholarship their senior year of high school.

Our next program will be held on Thursday, December 5th from 5:00-7:00pm at the Extension Office. If you have questions or would be interested in becoming a CARTEENS facilitator, please contact Adrienne at anderson.1410@osu.edu or 740.670.5315.

We Did It!

We did it! We raised over $30,000 to help fund the bathroom renovation project at 4-H Camp Ohio! We were overwhelmed with the support everyone showed to make this project a reality. In the end, we raised $31,008 through the Buckeye Funder Campaign. That doesn’t include all of the donations sent directly to camp. Thank you to everyone who donated or shared the information so that we were able to reach so many people. The bathrooms will be renovated before the summer camping seasons starts for 2020. So, if you drop kids off to camp next summer, be sure to “make a trip to the restroom” to check out the renovated facilities!
