Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow

A combined Postdoctoral/Lecturer (50/50) position emphasizing new directions in language learning and language instruction research in the Department of Literature at the University of California, San Diego is available beginning July 2020. Initial appointment will be for one year with the possibility of renewal contingent on performance and funding availability. We encourage applicants who can combine their primary expertise in language pedagogy, language-learning in digitally mediated environments, technology-enhanced (TE) language course design with competences in cultural studies, cognitive science, translation studies, linguistics or related fields. Salary and level of appointment are based on qualifications and UC pay scale. Proof of authorization to work in the U. S. will be required prior to employment (Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1985).
Candidates must have the ability to contribute to important departmental foci, such as translation, the study of language through literature, and L2 pedagogy in the fields such as Ancient Greek, Italian, Latin, Russian, Spanish, Chinese, or English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).
The candidate should have the potential to link the theoretical implications of their research to other sub-disciplines, and to interact with colleagues and students across divisions at UC San Diego. Candidates with demonstrated excellence in teaching will be expected to teach a range of undergraduate courses and to contribute to the development of conversations around language learning, digital literacy in SL education, language justice, and translation (between languages and between disciplines).
Combined Position (100%): Language Pedagogy and Technological Innovation Postdoctoral scholar position 1 (50%): will promote research and pedagogical innovation with the premise that all thinking (and innovative research) is conducted in language and that it is, therefore, critical to make language and language learning visible in all of our humanistic, STEM, and medical disciplines. We are particularly interested in attracting candidates whose instructional methods promote language acquisition across disciplines and in globally networked environments.
Lecturer position 1 (50%): Course-load of three courses related to language pedagogy, language pedagogy and technological innovation and/or related themes in candidate’s language specialization
The appointed postdoc/lecturer will teach three courses (compatible with the scholar’s talents and skill set) and help to design and organize the department’s language colloquium. Candidates must have received the PhD degree (in Classical, Indigenous, and/or Modern Languages and ESOL) by the time of appointment.
