Spark EXPO registration is fast approaching!

From June 12-15, teens at the Spark EXPO will learn about agriculture and related STEAM fields from industry experts, and faculty and staff of the Ohio State College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES).

Spark EXPO is open to all Ohio students who have completed the eighth grade or ninth grade at the conclusion of the 2023-2024 school year. Participants do not need to be enrolled in the 4-H program.

As part of Spark EXPO, students visit Ohio State’s Columbus and Wooster campuses and learn from Ohio State students, teachers, scientists, and researchers. Students explore careers, hear from Ohio 4-H alumni who share their career stories, and learn about the college and career-readiness program: Ohio 4-H Pathways to the Future.

The deadline to register is April 17, and details are at go.osu.edu/4hsparkexpo.

The event includes on-campus accommodations, meals, program materials, and transportation. Supervision is provided by adult program staff.

College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) Tours!

Ohio 4-H Adaptive Adventures Camp

Each summer, Ohio 4-H offers a camping experience for youth aged 8-adult who have unique needs that cannot be accommodated in a traditional camp setting. They typically have a small group of between 15-25 campers and their caregivers who spend the weekend doing all the normal camp things, modified for their needs. This year, Ohio 4-H Adaptive Adventures Camp will take plae at Canter’s Cave 4-H Camp in Jackson, Ohio from June 14-16, 2024. 2024 Forestry Wildlife Camp

2024 Small Farm Conference

Ohio State Extension announced plans to host a Small Farm Conference in Senecaville, Ohio on April 6, 2024. The theme for this year’s Mid-Ohio Small Farm Conference is “Sowing Seeds for Success.”

Conference session topics are geared to beginning and small farm owners as well as to farms looking to diversify their operation. There will be five different conference tracks including: Horticulture and Produce Production, Business Management, Livestock, Natural Resources and new this year The Farm Kitchen.

Some conference topic highlights include: Raising Meat Rabbits, Making Goat Milk Soap, Timber Harvesting and Marketing, Basics of Growing PawPaw’s, Food Preservation Basics, Herb Vinegars, Organic Pest Management, Growing Produce with Hydroponics, Starting and Setting up a business, Solar and Wind Leasing.

Anyone interested in developing, growing or diversifying their small farm is invited to attend including market gardeners, farmers market vendors, and anyone interested in small farm living.

Attendees will have the opportunity to browse a trade show featuring the newest and most innovative ideas and services for their farming operation. The conference provides an opportunity to talk with the vendors and network with others.

2024 Plowboy Prom

The Collegiate 4-H Club at Ohio State University Columbus will host their annual Plowboy Prom on Saturday, March 9, 2024 from 7:00-9:30pm at the Nationwide and Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center in Columbus, OH. This year’s theme is 80’s Disco! Cost is $5 per youth and includes line dancing, games, and snacks. Register to attend the Ohio 4-H Conference that morning and afternoon, and then stay in Columbus to attend Plowboy Prom!

REMINDER: 2024 Ohio 4-H Conference Registrations Due

The 2024 Ohio 4-H Conference will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio. The conference is a great opportunity to gather new ideas, get updates about 4-H, meet/connect with new people, and celebrate our volunteers and teens. The conference includes break out sessions for both teens and adult volunteers, as well as a luncheon, trade show, and silent auction. You can find a list of sessions, registration form, vendor application, and silent auction donation form HERE. Cost to attend is $40 per person.

Please return the registration form along with payment to the Licking County Extension Office by February 8, 2024 so that we can get you registered before the deadline. Check should be made payable to: Licking County 4-H Committee.
