REMINDER: Teen Achievement Awards Forms and Licking County 4-H Committee Scholarship DUE

The 2024 Ohio 4-H Achievement Awards Form Packet as well as the 2024 Licking County 4-H Committee Scholarship Packet are now available. Both forms can be found on the Teen Opportunities page of the website. Achievement Awards forms and the 4-H Committee Scholarship are due to the Licking County Extension Office by Friday, October 4, 2024. By completing the Achievement Awards forms, members have the opportunity to be recognized for their comprehensive project work and leadership activities and can be chosen to represent Licking County at the state level competition. Applicants are also eligible to apply for state trips/camps and other opportunities through this process. Members must be at least 14 (as of 01/01/2025) in order to be eligible for this process. Responsible for coordinating the Licking County Master Gardener program. Must be able to organize and coordinate activities of a large volunteer organization. Responsible for maintaining, recruiting, orienting and training volunteers. Previous teaching experience and knowledge of horticulture highly desired. Must be able to work with diverse clientele. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision as well as be a member of a team setting.

Requirements: High School diploma or GED. Certification or vocational training may be preferred. 2 years of relevant experience required. 4-6 years of relevant experience preferred.

The pay range for this profile is $16.49 – $21.69/hourly. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit’s available budget, and the candidate’s qualifications.

4-H Tractor Clubs for 2024-2025

Licking County 4-H Tractor Clubs are starting up for the 2024-2025 season. Learn more about large equipment, engines, petroleum power, and ATVs in a hands-on, experiential setting. Youth ages 14 and older can complete the Tractor Operator’s Certification Program which will allow them to operate large equipment on family farms or as an employee. Licking County has two tractor clubs. Review the flyer HERE or below to see when/where each club meets and who to contact to join.

Gift Card Drive for Nationwide Children’s Hospital

Let’s put our “Hands to Larger Service” as we partner with Karis’ Cause to collect gift cards for patients and their families at Nationwide Children’s Hospital this holiday season. We are requesting $10 gift cards. Gift cards can be brought to the 2024 4-H Achievement Night on Thursday, November 21, 2024 or dropped off to the Licking County Extension Office by Thursday, November 21st.

Jolly Pets & Horsemen’s Pride Product Innovation Contest for Ohio 4-H

Calling all creative minds of Ohio’s 4-H members! Jolly Pets and Horsemen’s Pride are excited to announce a unique opportunity for young innovators passionate about pets and equines. We’re hosting a Product Innovation Contest where you can showcase your ideas for new dog and/or equine products.

Guidelines:

1. Eligibility: Open to all 4-H program members.

2. Categories: Participants can submit ideas for dog products, equine products, or both.

3. Submission Requirements: 

– Detailed description of the product idea.

– Potential benefits and features of the product.

– Any sketches, diagrams, or prototypes (if available).

– Explanation of how the product addresses a specific need or improves the life of pets or horses.

– Originality of product, cannot be something that already exists.

– Optional: A short video presentation/photos or sketches (not mandatory but encouraged).

Deadline: September 21, 2024

4. Judging Criteria: 

– Creativity and Innovation: How original and inventive is the product idea?

– Practicality: Is the product feasible to manufacture and market?

– Impact: Will the product positively impact the lives of dogs, horses, or their owners?

– Presentation: Clarity and effectiveness of the submission.

5. Prize: 

– The winning product idea(s) will be chosen for production by Jolly Pets and/or Horsemen’s Pride.

– The submitter(s) of the chosen product(s) will receive a $1,500 scholarship prize each.

– Additionally, winners will have the opportunity to work with our product development team to further refine their ideas and see them come to life.

Carving New Ideas Camp at 4-H Camp Ohio

Carving New Ideas (CNI) is a camping opportunity that focuses on critical thinking and program facilitation for 4-H members in grades 8-12. The workshop is held at the scenic 4-H Camp Ohio in St. Louisville, Ohio. Campers develop their leadership skills while making new friends from across Ohio and participating in fun activities. Camp counselors are college students at The Ohio State University. Adult staff members providing risk management, nursing services, and meals are staff and volunteers from Franklin County 4-H.

Registration Fee: $95.00 (includes t-shirt and all meals)

Check-in: Friday, November 22, 2024, 6:30pm – 8:00pm
Check-out: Sunday, November 24, 2024, 10:00am

2025 Hartford Fair Board Application

Come be a part of the team! The application for the 2025 Hartford Fair Junior Fair Board is now available HERE. Completed applications must be turned in by November 15, 2024. Applicants must be age 14 as of 01/01/2025 to apply for the junior fair board. Interviews will take place on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at the Licking County Extension Office. Once you have submitted your application, please call our office at 740-670-5315 to schedule your interview.

 

2025 Food and Fashion Board Applications

The application for the 2025 Licking County 4-H Food and Fashion Board now available and is due by November 15, 2024. To be eligible to apply, members must at least 14 years old as of January 1, 2025. Members are NOT required to take a foods or clothing project in the current year that they are serving on the board, but should show an interested in 4-H foods and clothing projects and have taken those projects at some point during the 4-H career. Members will serve in a leadership role to support the food and clothing project areas. Members will plan and host workshops, help with judging, plan and run the style revue, and host other events to support our Licking County 4-H members. The application is due by Interviews will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2024 from 3:00-4:00pm and 7:00-8:00pm.
