We Grow Scientists

The Ohio State University’s College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) will host the second annual “We Grow Scientists” event on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, from 3-7:00 p.m. at Waterman Agricultural and Natural Resources Laboratory.

This afternoon of hands-on learning and activities will showcase the many STEM fields CFAES has to offer and will include a look at Waterman facilities such as the Controlled Environment Agriculture Research Complex (CEARC). “We Grow Scientists” is a free event open to learners of all ages looking to learn more about STEM in their community as part of the COSI Science Festival (May 1-4, 2024). Bring the whole family! 2024 DairyPalooza

The Canfield Fairgrounds will host the 2024 DairyPalooza on Saturday, April 20, 2024 from 8:00am to 4:00pm. The event will feature QA training in the morning and a host of workshops in the afternoon. Registration is $10 and must be submitted by April 5. Late registrations will be accepted until the day of the event, but the registration fee will increase to $15. April 8, Total Solar Eclipse

It’s not too early to get excited about the total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024! Even if you are not in the path of the total solar eclipse, you will see the moon’s shadow cover at least 90% of the sun!
Our 4-H professionals have worked together with Dr. Wayne Schlingman, Director of Arne Slettebak Planetarium at The Ohio State University main campus, to create teaching tools to help everyone in Ohio understand and enjoy the event. Participate in OSU’s Arts & Sciences Summer Exploration Program!

The Arts and Sciences Summer Exploration Program is a one-week non-residential academic enrichment program for middle (current 7-8 graders) and high school (current 9-11) students. In-person classes meet from 9am to 4pm each day and are taught by Ohio State faculty, staff and graduate students. Summer Exploration is offered in three, one-week sessions in June 2024. Applications are open through May 1 and will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Spark EXPO registration is fast approaching!

From June 12-15, teens at the Spark EXPO will learn about agriculture and related STEAM fields from industry experts, and faculty and staff of the Ohio State College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES).

Spark EXPO is open to all Ohio students who have completed the eighth grade or ninth grade at the conclusion of the 2023-2024 school year. Participants do not need to be enrolled in the 4-H program.

As part of Spark EXPO, students visit Ohio State’s Columbus and Wooster campuses and learn from Ohio State students, teachers, scientists, and researchers. Students explore careers, hear from Ohio 4-H alumni who share their career stories, and learn about the college and career-readiness program: Ohio 4-H Pathways to the Future.

The deadline to register is April 17, and details are at go.osu.edu/4hsparkexpo.

The event includes on-campus accommodations, meals, program materials, and transportation. Supervision is provided by adult program staff.

Register for Forestry Wildlife Camp!

The 2024 Forestry Wildlife Camp will be held at Canter’s Cave 4-H Camp from April 19 to 21, and spots will fill up before you know it! This opportunity is open to youth in grades 7-11 and 4-H members in the 12th grade are encouraged to apply as camp counselors. Campers will enjoy wildlife education, fishing, hiking, and tree climbing, and learn about forestry, outdoor survival, and ODNR careers and college opportunities! Registration is due March 28.

4-H Day at the Detroit Tigers

Big news for 4-H and the Detroit Tigers as they announce the second annual Michigan 4-H Day!

As neighbors, Michigan 4-H wanted to make sure their Ohio neighbors were invited to the party!
