2023 Ohio State Fair Virtual Skillathons

Virtual livestock skillathons will be available for youth to complete between May 30th and October 20th. These virtual skillathons will not be scored. They are intended as a way for youth to practice for the Ohio State Fair other skillathon contests. No pre-registration is required. 4-H Project Day with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources

4-H Project Day – will be held June 17 from 10AM – 4PM at Alum Creek State Park.

The event is being hosted by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and is open to all 4-H members across Ohio!

Best of all the event is FREE!

The day will be filled with fun, hands-on educational activities that are designed to fulfill 4-H project book requirements. Each workshop event will be taught by experts from ODNR and/or Army Corps Volunteers.  

The 4-H projects that are the focus of this even include: Geology Can You Dig It? Why Trees Matter,  Beginning Fishing, Ohio Birds, Insect Adventures, Explore the Outdoors, Photography Basics, and Get Started in Art.

Any youth under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.

4-H Volunteers!

ODNR is also looking for Volunteer Chaperones for this event! So you can get in on the fun! Chaperones will help supervise 4-H members and provide guidance and assistance completing project activities.

State 4-H Junior Shooting Sports Camp

The Licking County 4-H Committee, in partnership with the Licking County 4-H Shooting Sports Committee, will be choosing two 4-H members, who are currently completing Grades 3-6, to participate in State 4-H Junior Shooting Sports Camp. State 4-H Junior Shooting Sports Camp is a residential camp, and will be held at Canter’s Cave 4-H Camp in Jackson, Ohio during June 23-25, 2023.

Licking County 4-H members interested in applying must meet the following criteria:

  • Active 4-H member during 2023 4-H project year
  • Be currently completing grades 3-6
  • Submit completed Achievement Award form by the deadline: Monday, May 22nd
  • Be available to participate in the June 23-25, 2023 camp, and provide own travel to camp in Jackson, Ohio.

The total cost of the trip is $250. The Licking County 4-H Shooting Sports Committee, in cooperation with the Licking County 4-H Committee, will cover 50% of registration costs for two delegates. Each delegate will be responsible for $125.

Showmanship 10:00am ( no charge with at least one paid entry)

Breeding and market show together

Banners to be awarded to Champion and Reserve Champion in each age division.

Breeding/Market Show 12:00pm

Breed classes
⁃ 5 per breed to make a class if less will be shown in AOB wool or AOB meat
⁃ ewes and rams up to 1 year of age
⁃ ewe lambs can be shown in breeding and market class with separate paid entry.
⁃ All Breeding sheep must be in good health. No sheep presenting with communicable disease will be permitted to show.
⁃ No registration papers required. Breed characteristics will be at the discretion of the judge and will be placed accordingly.
Banners awarded to Champion and reserve champion ewe, Champion and Reserve champion ram, and top in each class.

⁃ Must have official USDA scrapie tag.
⁃ All sheep and goats must be in good health. No sheep or goats presenting with communicable disease will be permitted to show.

Payouts will be determined by number of entries.

Banners awarded to Top 5 overall and top placing lambs in each class.

Food truck will be on site.

Introduction to Still Project Workshop

The Licking County 4-H Food and Fashion Board is hosting an Introduction to Still Project Workshop to help members who are new to 4-H or are new to taking still projects (clothing, food, and special interest projects). This workshop will take place on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at 6:30pm at the Licking County Extension Office. We plan to share tips for completing your projects and answer questions you may have to get you off to a good start with your projects. 4-H Summer Camp Registration Update

As of the posting of this update, all of our boy spots for camp are filled and there is one girl spot remaining. We have started a wait list for the boys and will start a wait list once the final girl spot has been filled in case there are any cancellations. Market Goat Tagging

Market Goat Tagging will take place on Saturday, May 20, 2023 from 10:00 to NOON at the Goat Barn on the Hartford Fairgrounds. The fee is $2/animal and you can tag up to 6 animals. Scrapies tags are required for identification.

LAST CALL: Hog IDs Due!

All Hartford Fair junior fair market hog exhibitors must complete their Hog ID form by May 15, 2023. Forms will be completed online using the new FairEntry system. You can visit the new FairEntry portal by visiting: http://hartfordfair.fairentry.com. All 4-H members will be able to log in using their 4-HOnline credentials. Please follow the Market Hog ID FairEntry Instructions to complete your Market Hog IDs.
