Spring 4-H Shooting Sports Instructor Training

4-H Advisors who are interested in becoming certified shooting sports instructors or already certified instructors who would like to be certified in another discipline are encouraged to attend the Spring Shooting Sports Instructor Training Workshop.

2023 Hartford Fair Scholarship

The 2023 Hartford Fair Scholarship is available and due to the Hartford Fair Office by March 3, 2023. Applicant must be a graduating senior, live within the Hartford Fair District and be a member of one of the following: 4-H, FFA, FCCLA or Steer Pool. Applicant must be pursuing an education in a 2 or 4-year program at an accredited and degree granting institution.

Ohio Youth Poultry Clinic

The Youth Poultry Clinic is open to all youth (and adults) interested in learning more about poultry.

WHEN: March 18, 2023

WHERE: OSU ATI, Wooster, OH

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: April 1, 2023

COST: $20.00 per youth and $25.00 per adult.

Everyone MUST register to eat refreshments and/or lunch, whether or not attending sessions.

Topics include: Poultry Nutrition, Broiler Evaluation, Poultry Necropsy – Comparative Anatomy, Mortality Disposal, Biosecurity/HPAI, Poultry Carcass Cut-up, Q & A Corner.

Poultry Quality Assurance will be offered after lunch for Ohio youth needing Youth Quality Assurance certification for 2023.

State 4-H Horse Poster Contest

•Registration/Poster Submission Deadline: Saturday, March 4th
•Posters MUST be delivered in person to 222 Animal Sciences (2029 Fyffe Ct) in Columbus by Friday, March 3rd or delivered in person between 9:00am-4:30pm at the Nationwide & Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center in Columbus during the State 4-H Horse Communications Contest and Youth Educational Clinic. Mailed entries will not be accepted.
•Cost: FREE
Posters will be displayed at the Ohio State Fair Junior Horse Show and must score at least a 60% in order to receive credit toward the year-end achievement awards.

Judging Contest at Beef Expo

The judging contest is part of the OCA BEST Stockmanship division.

It will be held on March 17, 2023 at 9 a.m. in the Coliseum. Check-In will be held from 7-8 a.m.

Early Registration Deadline: Wednesday, March 1, 2023: $10 per participant, $40 per team

LATE Registration Deadline: March 2-12, 2023: $15 per participant, $60 per team

Junior Division: Beginner (8-10) and Junior (11-13)

Senior Division: Intermediate (14-16) and Senior (17-21)

*BEST Novice Participants (11-16) will fall in the respective age division. There is not a separate division.

REMINDER: Virtual Club Officer Training

Ohio 4-H is hosting a virtual 4-H Club Officer Training On Monday, February 27, 2023 from 7:00-8:30pm. This is a great opportunity to learn more about holding a 4-H club office. There will also be a session for 4-H Club Advisors! Register online by Friday, February 24, 2023 by visiting http://go.osu.edu/officer. Once you register, an email confirmation with the Zoom link will be sent to the email address with which you registered.

And don’t forget, we’ll also have a county-wide officer training this year! We are happy to bring back the Club Officer Training Workshop and New Family Orientation in 2023! This event is a great opportunity for members who will be serving in an officer role to learn more about their officer role and gain hands-on experience and helpful resources so they will be better prepared to serve as an officer in 2023. Members who maybe aren’t serving in an officer role yet, but would like to learn more are also encouraged to participate!

We will also have a session for New Family Orientation to help new families learn more about what 4-H has to offer and to have their questions answered.

REMINDER: Farmers Share Breakfast

The Licking County Farm Bureau will host their annual Farmers Share Breakfast on Saturday, February 18, 2023 from 8:00-10:00am at CTEC in Newark. The proceeds from this event will support campers attending Licking County 4-H’s Summer Residential Camp at 4-H Camp Ohio in June.

The Licking County Farm Bureau will be partnering with Utica Tractor 4-H Club and Simmons Farm Toys to host a Farm Toy Display Contest at the Farmer’s Share Breakfast! Beef Quality Assurance

The Licking County Cattlemen’s Association (LCCA) will hold their annual meeting along with Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) Certification on Sunday, February 19, 2023. Lunch will start at 12:30pm with the BQA starting at 12:45pm. The Cattlemen’s meeting will take place after BQA has finished. This will take place at Claylick Run Farm at 11970 Cross Road, Newark, Ohio 43056.
