2022 Farm Science Review

Farm Science Review is on the horizon and is set to celebrate 60 years as one of the nation’s largest outdoor farm shows, this Sept. 20 through 22 at the Molly Caren Agricultural Center.

Farm Science Review is excited to announce a NEW mobile ticketing option for the 2022 show. Mobile ticketing will allow visitors to print tickets at home or save to a mobile device for entry. Presale ticket price of $10 will be available online and at participating sales locations until midnight Monday, September 19th. Tickets may still be purchased online during Farm Science Review for $15. Children 5 & under are free. Visitors may still purchase paper tickets with cash or credit card at the gates. The Licking County OSU Extension Office will also have a limited number of tickets that can be purchased at our office through September 19th.

Paper tickets can also be found (while supplies last) at various locations around the county:

Ohio 4-H Virtual Achievement Form Workshop

This fall, Teen Leadership Council will be hosting a virtual Achievement Form Workshop for 4-H members statewide!

  • October 2, 2022 (6:30-8:00 p.m. on Zoom): An informational session will be held, providing a basic overview of the Achievement Form, giving introductory tips for completion, and sharing about potential opportunities available to members who complete and submit their forms.
    • Must register at https://go.osu.edu/AchForm2022 by September 30 to receive Zoom information for the workshop.
    • This session will be recorded for those who cannot attend in live-time.

Achievement Awards Forms and Scholarship

The 2022 Ohio 4-H Achievement Awards Form Packet as well as the 2022 Licking County 4-H Committee Scholarship Packet are now available. Both forms can be found in multiple formats on the Teen Opportunities page of the website. Achievement Awards forms and the 4-H Committee Scholarship are due to the Licking County Extension Office by Friday, October 7, 2022. By completing the Achievement Awards forms, members have the opportunity to be recognized for their comprehensive project work and leadership activities and can be chosen to represent Licking County at the state level competition. Applicants are also eligible to apply for state trips/camps and other opportunities through this process. Members must be at least 14 (as of 01/01/2023) in order to be eligible for this process. Please reach out to Lisa McCutcheon (mccutcheon.46@osu.edu) with questions or for help with the process.

Fall Horse Banquet

Creekside Classroom Construction

The Licking County 4-H Committee, with support from several groups and local businesses, is building a shelter house style structure at 4-H Camp Ohio next to the walk bridge on the boy’s side of camp. This new structure will be the Creekside Classroom and will offer additional learning space during our creeking sessions and other activities at camp. This is something that we have wanted to see happen for many years and are excited it is finally coming to fruition! We will need help with assembling the structure on Saturday, October 15th. More details will be come once they’ve been finalized, but please save the date in your calendar if that is something you think you can help with. Please note: we are asking for ADULT volunteers who are physically able to help build the structure. While we love having youth help us with a variety of activities, this activity needs those with some skills with tools and construction.

We’ll also have more information about those donors and businesses who helped make this project possible once it is completed.

My Very Own Blanket – Community Service Opportunity

My Very Own Blanket is dedicated to warming the heart of every child in the foster care system with a blanket, to give them a feeling of comfort, security and most of all, a SMILE.  Handmade blankets are created through the loving care of volunteers. We connect diverse people, community groups, businesses and services through this volunteer opportunity and ministry to our children in foster care. These gifts are comforting and familiar, and children can take them from one home to another.  Thousands of blankets are donated each year to children in foster care. Each blanket is personalized with the child’s name, a tradition for My Very Own Blanket since 1999.

Volunteers are needed to sew/create blankets that can then be given to children in the foster care system, so that no matter what, each foster child has something that belongs to them and can be a comfort to them. Blankets can be sewn/quilted, crocheted, knitted, or no-sew fleece blankets. All blankets must be new and handmade as the handmade aspect is an important part of the gift.

Blankets can be donated to My Very Own Blanket in Westerville, OH, or reach out to My Very Own Blanket and they will put you in touch with an agency in Licking County so that blankets can stay within our community.

HEALTHU

Are you a 4-H’er interested in health? Do you see yourself potentially working in health one day? Nutritionist? Therapist? Nurse? Athletic Trainer? Geneticist?

What: Health University (HealthU) is a weekend camp in October focused on Healthy Living for high schoolers in Ohio 4-H. Join us at 4-H Camp Ohio for a weekend as we explore four of the 9 Dimensions of Wellness and explore health-related careers. We will be exploring the following four tracks of wellness:

  • Physical wellness allows a person to engage in activities of daily living without experiencing undue fatigue or exhaustion. The physical dimension of wellness is supported through health behaviors, which include exercise, eating a healthy diet, limiting alcohol intake, not smoking, and getting adequate sleep each night.
  • Emotional wellness involves recognizing, accepting, and expressing feelings. Adequate rest is required for wellness in this dimension. If an individual’s mental function is hindered by stress and lack of sleep, they may struggle with accurately assessing a situation which then triggers negative emotional responses and disrupts emotional wellness.
  • Social wellness requires the ability to trust and respect other people and leads to the creation of supportive partnerships and friendships. Being socially well allows one to develop and maintain intimacy, and to have empathy and respect for others.
  • Creative wellness allows a person to appreciate and/or participate in a diverse range of arts or cultural experiences, and to value and cherish the surrounding world. Freely expressing thoughts and emotions through dance, song, drawing, painting, or writing are some of the ways to engage in creative wellness.

Who: Any current 4-H’ers in grades 9 thru 12.
