REMINDER: Forms Due for Hartford Fair Livestock

Junior Fair Livestock and Equine exhibitors will have online forms that will be due before they bring their animals to the fair. Please note below which forms are required for each species and the deadline for each form. Most species must have their forms completed by 11:59p.m. on Friday, August 6, 2021. The only exception to this is Market Hogs. Market Hogs will complete their forms after the Hartford Fair tag is placed in their hog’s ear on August 7th and before 10:00am on August 8th. Instructions will be displayed throughout the Swine Complex.

REMINDER: Help Needed in the 4-H Center

The 4-H Center needs volunteers to sit in the gazebo during the building’s open hours the week of the Hartford Fair. Volunteers are needed to answer questions (usually fair-goers may ask where a specific building is located or when an event is happening) and keep an eye on things. Youth are welcome to help but must have an adult with them. Each shift is one hour and shifts run from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. each day of the fair. If each 4-H club would cover at least two shifts, we will have the full week covered. Volunteering in the 4-H Center is a very easy way to support our still project members and you can spend an hour or more cooling off in the air conditioning! Health Reminders for Fair

Over the past few weeks, we have had multiple instances where the family member of a 4-Her has been diagnosed with COVID, resulting in the 4-H member missing participation in judging, meetings, or Ohio State Fair competition. As the Hartford Fair draws near, we want to encourage all families to do their very best to limit exposure in any way that they can. Our goal is always to have all members enjoy a successful experience at the Hartford Fair. However, if the member or a family member is diagnosed or experiencing symptoms, they will need to follow appropriate quarantine guidelines, and the member may very well miss out on their fair experience this year. It may seem as though everything is back to normal, but we are still seeing members of our community diagnosed with COVID. Please remember to protect yourself, wash hands regularly, get tested when you experience symptoms, and be mindful of the health of others around you. We are stronger when we look out for one another – and the fair is a perfect example of that! We look forward to seeing all of you at the 2021 Hartford Fair!

Individuals and/or family members are not permitted to attend if they or anyone living in their household is experiencing any of the following symptoms: fever, cough, shortness of breath, loss of sense of taste or smell, or has been directly exposed (confirmed or suspected) to COVID-19 if they are not fully vaccinated. COVID-19 vaccinations are our best current protection against infection and a fatal outcome. Fully vaccinated individuals are not required to wear a face mask; however we strongly recommend eligible, but unvaccinated individuals to continue to properly wear a face mask when social distancing cannot be maintained.

Hartford Fair 2021 Traffic Pattern

If you are bringing livestock, horses, or dogs to the fairgrounds during livestock move-in on Saturday, August 7th, please review the traffic pattern to ensure that you know where to enter and exit to help keep things organized. Road Closures and Traffic Delays During the Hartford Fair

If you typically travel Lock Road to come to the fairgrounds, please be aware that Lock Road is closed for a bridge replacement through September. The closure runs from the Fairgrounds/Johnstown Road intersection to Dutch Cross Road. If you are coming from the west you can still get to Fairground Road. However, if you typically travel from the east you will need to find an alternate route to get to the fairgrounds.

Please also note that the annual Pelotonia Ride for the Cure will take place on Saturday, August 7th and Sunday, August 8th. Croton will be a water/restroom stop and they riders will be on several routes throughout Licking and Knox County. Please allow extra time to travel to the fair on those days. We want all livestock and exhibitors to make it on the grounds on time and we want all of those riding to raise awareness and funds to find the cure for cancer to have a safe and successful ride. 2021 Hartford Fair Princess for a Day Program

Purpose: The idea behind this program is to allow 4-H Cloverbuds at the Hartford Fair the opportunity to experience a day in the life of a royalty member and step in to the footsteps of their role models. We hope that this opportunity also gives them a way to flourish as future leaders and 4-H members, much like the Pee Wee showmanship classes!

Who: Girls ages 5 – 8 who are enrolled as 4-H Cloverbuds during the 2021 program year (Kindergarten through 2nd grade) and are eligible for participation in the Hartford Fair.

How are they selected? A Google survey form has been created to obtain key information such as name, age, parents contact information, and days that they are available during the fair. Parents are asked to submit their entry through the online form, with the link being shared through the Hartford Fair Facebook page. Participants will be selected at random after all entries are in which are due August 4th. We plan to select two princesses for each day (Sunday through Friday), in order to keep it manageable this first year. Deadline for applying for this opportunity will be August 4th.

What will they do? Selected youth will be contacted just after the deadline in order to make arrangements to dates and times. Upon arriving to the grounds on their special day, the girls will be given both a sash and tiara to wear on throughout the day. Each Princess will be encouraged to make her way throughout the grounds (with parent supervision), but also have time during the day to shadow the 2021 Hartford Fair King and Queen, and learn more about what they do during a typical day at the fair.

How we will spread the news: In an effort to promote this program, royalty coordinator Morgan McCutcheon will hold a Facebook live segment on the Hartford Fair Facebook page to explain the new program. At that time, the link to the registration survey will also be shared.  Additionally, we plan to distribute details through the weekly 4-H Blog family email.

Potential: With this year being the first year, we will accept only the first twelve registrations. This will allow us to offer the program on a smaller scale in it’s initial year, and determine what changes are needed for future years. There is certainly potential to grow the program to allow more girls to participate – and also to obtain sponsors who would be interested in supporting the program.

Junior Fair Market Animal Sale Photos

Please note that sale photos for ALL market animals will take place during each species scheduled weigh-in procedures. Please review the time for your scheduled weigh-in and ensure that your animal is clean and the exhibitor is dressed appropriately. Exhibitors should only have their photo taken with the animal(s) that they have designated for sale (one per department).

Help Needed in the Arts & Crafts Building at the Hartford Fair

The Senior Fair Board is in need of some volunteers willing to help with intake of entries for the Open Arts & Crafts categories. The arts and crafts entries have been moved and will now reside in the New Arts & Crafts building (the old Boys Dorm). Volunteers would help take in and organize entries as they are dropped of in the days leading up to fair. If you are interested in helping, you can reach out to Darl Evans at devans@lcounty.com.
