As Ohio’s soybean farmers get to work in their fields this spring, keeping the nation’s food supply strong, they’re providing a special opportunity for students quarantined at homes due to the COVID-19 virus.
Students of all ages are invited to ride along with Wood County soybean farmer Nathan Eckel as he prepares and plants his fields during a LIVE Virtual Field Trip to an Ohio Soybean Farm to be held on Wednesday, May 13, at 1 p.m. Eastern.
To accommodate the number of students connecting individually from their homes, the trip will be streamed live through the Ohio Soybean Farmers Facebook page, and at GrowNextGen.org/virtual-field-trips for those without Facebook accounts.
Students will connect with Eckel in real time to:
- Engage in a live video tour of soybean fields and ride along in a tractor
- Get a close look at how a planter works
- Ask questions about planting, seed germination, management, and harvest
- Discover the uses and benefits of Ohio soybeans
- Understand the challenges farmers face and the decisions they must make
Learn about practices farmers use to produce their crops.
