Licking County Farm Bureau, in partnership with Licking County OSU Extension and Licking County Soil & Water Conservation District, is hosting a Summer Farm Tour.
The farm tour will be held July 13, 2019, starting out from Lynd Fruit Farm, 9399 Morse Road SW at 8 a.m. From there, participants will board buses and visit the three separate farms listed below. Buses will return to Lynd Fruit Farm for lunch.
What can I expect to see and learn:
Legends Lane Reproductive Services: State of the art Monoslope cattle barn designed around animal comfort. This design lets nature warm the barn in the winter and cool the barn in the summer. Cattle working facility that has been designed to maintain safety for both cattle & handlers. Wide variety of cattle. Top quality laboratory for performing embryo transfer and In Vitro Fertilization. Unique re-purposing of a facility that was previously a golf course.
Lynd Fruit Farm and Blue Frog Farm: Locally grown fruit production with a wide variety of fruit trees and berries. State of the art methods of growing fruit. Research behind new apple varieties. Prairie areas to maintain pollinators.
South Fork Dairy: Multiple breeds of cows including Montbeliarde, Holstein, and Jersey. Largest cross ventilation barn in Ohio -designed for cow comfort. Feeding and manure handling systems designed to keep animals clean and healthy. Milking parlor capable of handling 64 cows a ta time. Milk storage designed to maintain the highest quality.
Cost for Farm Bureau members is $10 and non-members are $15. Seating is limited and early reservations are encouraged by July 10.Please call 740-452-2356 to reserve your seat. Payment is due at the time of reservation.
