Call for Papers

The University of San Francisco Center for Asia Pacific Studies is pleased to announce the call for papers for “Happiness and Longevity in Asia,” a workshop to be held at the University of San Francisco on Thursday and Friday, March 1-2, 2019.

With this workshop, the Center aims to promote research and interdisciplinary academic exchange and discussion on issues related to the happiness and longevity in the Asia Pacific both historically and today. Proposed themes include: definitions of happiness, health and wellness, mental health, the impact of globalization and wealth on happiness, the happiness index, the search for immortality, secrets of a long life, healthy policy, and so on. Submissions may explore happiness and longevity as inter-related, or they may focus on happiness or longevity as a discrete topic.

All participants will be required to provide a draft of their conference paper 2 weeks prior to the conference (by Feb. 14, 2019) to allow discussants adequate time to prepare their comments. Papers must represent original work not already published or in press.

The Center will provide lodging and food for the participants during the duration of the workshop. Participants are expected to cover the costs of their travel to and from the university. Those who need additional assistance may apply for a travel stipend.  Please contact Anny Crisp, program manager, for further details: acrisp@usfca.edu.

Participants are invited to submit their paper for consideration in the Center’s online, indexed, double-blind peer-reviewed academic journal, Asia Pacific Perspectives(ISSN:2167-1699). Since its establishment in 2001, the journal has promoted cross-cultural understanding, tolerance, and the dissemination of knowledge about the Asia Pacific region.
